Lhind the Thief, the first book, was largely written while I was sitting in hospital waiting rooms waiting for my father's heart surgery, I began writing it to entertain myself--it was supposed to be as fun as possible, with all my favorite tropes. Secret identities! Disguises! Chases and escapes! Magic in all kinds of forms! And of course a little romance.
From time to time over the next few years, I brought it out, usually at rough times, until suddenly it was done, I had a whole book, and an outline for a second one (Lhind the Spy)
It seemed appropriate to finish up the series while locked in this house. In the third volume, there is lots more action, a dragon, more magic . . . and the dismantling of a rotten government.
Oh, and there is even a gladiator arena sequence--though very different from the ones I've encountered in some young adult fantasies of recent years.
Like all the books set on the world of WREN TO THE RESCUE and A POSSE OF PRINCESSES, these are closer to young adult in the old fashioned sense--lighter and shorter than my series for adults, with questions of identity at the core.
