Questions for fans of the TV show Supernatural

Okay, the smoke is so bad that I can't read much--the tiny movements of my stinging eyes hurt. So during the middle of the night when the smoke was extra thick and I couldn't sleep, I've been watching TV, as the spouse got Season 1 on Netflix.

It's one of those ongoing shows, where there is an overall storyline, but it paces itself throughout the season, so it's kind of hard to skip ahead to any one defining episode.

About episode 8 or 9, I think. There are some hints in the early episodes, but by and large they set the scene for the boys' life. The major mytharc kicks in around 8 or 9.

Not just eeew, but offensive and illogical. Although Dean's squee over the shower was kind of cute.

What I liked about Supernatural (only season one and about half of season two-- the rest is largely dire) was the relationship between the brothers, so I think I can steer you in the right direction.

I assume you saw the first four episodes?

"Bloody Mary": Skippable.

"Skin": This is a tough call. It has some really gross moments, but also some excellent character development. It involves a shapeshifter who can take on other humans' forms. I'm sure you can guess where that goes!

"Hook Man": Skip.

"Bugs": Skip.

"Home": Sam and Dean revisit their childhood home. Some gross bits (close your eyes) but essential to the larger arc.

"Asylum": Not essential, but some good character bits, especially in the second half.

"Scarecrow": Scary but very well-done, and essential to the larger arc.

"Faith": Excellent character bits and very relevant to character arcs, though not directly to the larger arc.

"Route 666": Dumb in many ways, but Dean has sex. It could have been better-lit.

"Nightmare": Essential to larger plot, plus the brothers impersonate priests.

"The Benders": Not relevant to larger arc, but a good stand-alone episode with one of their better female leads (a cop.) This one is really more suspense than horror-- no monsters.

"Shadow": Excellent and essential to the plot.

"Hell House": Skippable.

"Something Wicked": Excellent and essential, with flashbacks to the brothers as little kids!

"Provenance": Skippable.

"Dead Man's Blood": Excellent and essential. If you see nothing else, watch this and the next two, which form one continuous story.

"Salvation" and "Devil's Trap": Must-watch. If only the whole show was this compelling...
