Flycon 2009

Oct 26, 2008 18:57

so eneit and gillpolack and I met by chat today (today being Sunday afternoon here in CA, and Monday morning in Australia, which is such a cool sfnal concept, at least to me) and set up our online worldcon.

We borrowed the Bittercon community for our preliminary spadework, but we adopted flycon2009 as our name. We have the butterfly in mind as our icon--a butterfly around the Earth. We're hoping some creative person will design us a logo/icon but for now, that's the name, and the community is there.

If you've got an interest in participating in an online con the second weekend in January, 2009, please go join the community. Our plans now are to have multiple tracks for all time zones, so we'll be using simple chat interfaces and also bulletin boards for those who like to take a little time to think over a post, and read the others. We'll experiment around with a good bulletin board interface. The SFF.NET guys have offered to help us with one of the IRCs, and the Australians have resident Techwiz Nyssa for that end.

Meanwhile, I do have names of some volunteers. But we'll need lots more. Volunteers to monitor discussions and interviews, both chat and bulletin board. Panel topics on all subjects, online links for various types of work (prose, poetry, art, vids, podcasts, whatever) everything people would like to share. There is no cost--everything is volunteer, so anyone can participate if they can get access to a computer.
