My yuletide fics - Strange Empire and Sense8

I matched on Strange Empire, which was my offer that was outside my comfort zone - 19th North American, lyrically filmed, women surviving on the Canadian border after their menfolk are killed.
Was a little disconcerted to get such a minimalist request involving only one character, but Yuletide is all about the challenge so i immediately started rewatching the canon, only to discover I had not seen the last couple of eps. Turns out stuff happened that totally changed what I thought I would be writing, and I got psyched out for a while.
The other thing that threw me was that my recipient definitively referred to Morgan, their requested character, as 'he'. I had been unclear throughout the series whether Morgan was trans, or just passing as a man for convenience (as many women did). In an earlier pimp post I did, half way through the series, I had assumed not from something the character said, but on my yuletide rewatch of the whole series, trans was a valid reading, yay, so then I had to try and research/imagine what it would be like to be trans in the 19th century, and so alone.
I also didn't want to write a fic set after the events of the last two eps, so I wrote my first pre-canon fic and my first 'character as a youth' fic. I was really happy with how it turned out and people seem to like it, so, yay.

I only discovered this amazing show a short time ago, so I didn't start writing treats till the week before deadline.
Truth Set Free - couldn't resist a prompt that was 'Lito tells Hernando and Dani the truth, tell me how that goes'. I love all three of them and they were lots of fun to write. On Xmas Eve morning I had a draft, nearly didn't bother trying to find a beta because i was already so tired, but I sent out emails to a few people on the Yuletide beta reader list before I left for work just asking for canon consistency and characterisation since it was so last minute (but anything else they wanted to if they had time) and within a few hours two people had offered. I sent them off and Poetry came back quickly with some great plot/characterisation suggestions. I fixed the stuff I could do quickly, but did not have the time or brain power to expand on the areas they suggested, which i regret because they would have improved the fic immensely.
RidiculousMavis took longer but came back with a more detailed beta, yay, and again, with some great suggestions that I only had time to work on a few of, again to my regret. They also asked if there was anything else they could do, how cool is that, so I cheekily sent them the short Sun fic I wrote on Xmas Eve evening. The archive was due to open at 8am Xmas Day where I am. I assume the timezones are vastly different - I sent them the fic at 1.30am, then woke up at 5.30am to see if they'd returned it, they had, so I made the few spag corrections, posted the fic and went back to bed. I was pretty exhausted. But determined *g*.
Family Visit - I really wanted Sun to get some happiness, and I adore Capheus's joyfulness so I had fun writing a short 1k fic with them at the very last minute. Not sure how I did it, as I was already so tired! I really like this fic, it makes me happy.
