This weekend the BF was in town for a visit, so I entertained him with a trip to the
Petersen Automotive Museum in downton Los Angeles. One of their big exhibits this time was "La Vida Lowriders." Apparently, if the exhibit is any example, the most popular car to make a lowrider with is a - you guessed it - Chevy Impala. So - here's the pictures of the various Impalas, tricked out to various degrees of ludicrousness, in chronological order.
This first one is a 1958 Impala - not too ridiculous, though the color is certainly eye-catching.
This is a 1963 Impala - I love the name ("Sunshine") and the color. The trunk is so tricked out, it'd make Dean Winchester jealous:
Gotta love the mural in the interior of the trunk, eh?
This is a 1964 Impala called "Gypsy Rose." All I could think of is Dean telling Sam that this is the perfect car for him:
The pink plush seats (that swivel backwards!) are the perfect finishing touch:
If you like your cars a little tamer, this convertible 1964 Impala can't be beat:
And finally, from Chevy's Rococo period, here's a 1976 Impala:
Now, I know what the "Supernatural" fans out there are wondering: wasn't there even one 1967 Impala in the bunch? Sadly, no (I think they recently blew the last one up on "Mythbusters"). However, I spotted these in the gift shop:
It took some serious self-control not the buy one.
Seriously, the Petersen is worth checking out if you're ever in Los Angeles (it's part of museum row, along with the Pace Museum and the LACMA).
