In a Nutshell: Players wanted!

Jun 07, 2011 00:39

(Some of you have already seen a version of this, because I just sent PMs to everybody in the DW comm that I hadn't seen playing / hadn't talked to already. Feel free to skip it and/or respond here if you have. :-) )

It's summertime, I have time and brains again, time to try kicking the Nutshell into gear!

As a reminder, this is a dressing-room style journalsgame: players do not have to get characters approved by the mod before playing, there are no minimum activity rates, characters can and do come from AUs as well as from canon, and things like dicerolling, mechanics, and metaplot can be brought into a scene or ignored depending on what the participants consider more fun. There is a vague metaplot that I-as-mod have in mind whenever I'm making open posts and which I might "GM" the occasional post for in the future (especially if people ask for it), and we do have some continuity stuff going on, but none of it is mandatory.

The only real rules are:
- that characters be consistently flagged (i.e., use a character-specific journal, or use a character-specific icon and/or make a note of the character's name in the subject line of your first comment to a thread), so that players can keep track of who they're playing with and so I can tag posts appropriately;
- that in-community threads do not go past an approximate R rating (if you want to break the rating, please take it off-community);
- that non-open posts and threads be flagged as such so that players know not to tag in where they shouldn't;
- that there will be at least one new mod-created open post every other week so that people always get somewhere new to play in;
- that people try to remember to tell each other if they feel the need to drop an in-progress thread, as a courtesy;
- and that people try to have fun with each other. :-)

I know I've seen some people make comments that don't get responses, and that might have turned some players off. Sadly, it's a hazard of the lack of a minimum activity rate and low population overall: sometimes people just don't see comments, or feel awkward about jumping strangers out of the blue, or a hook doesn't click with the one person who does see it. Instead, I highly recommend jumping at least one existing thread when you come play, whether or not it's already been jumped by someone else! Almost everyone I've seen speak up on the topic says they like being jumped, and worst-case, you tag someone who's not interested and they tell you so (and maybe set up a different thread).

If there's anything I can do that would make the community more interesting to you, whether it's a request ("There aren't enough Earth-only posts", "I'm only interested in events and plot/miniplot scenarios", "Do Seraphim ASAP on the Choir/Band-targeted posts") or an anti-request ("Can you do fewer targeted posts?" or "I don't like playing completely mundane scenarios, can you do fewer mundane open posts?") or something I haven't thought of, please let me know! I may not be able to comply perfectly, but I'm more than willing to discuss options and change up what I'm doing to make players happy.

If you'd like to coordinate with other players too, we have In a Nutshell: OOC, and in particular the player-chat post; note that it's not required for anyone to post in the comm or for player-chat to only happen in this post! But among other things, it includes contact/playstyle information and character information for various players.

Similarly, if you know anyone who might be interested in playing with us, please feel free to point them at the Nutshell and/or at me directly! I'm happy to walk people through the basics of journalsgaming and/or In Nomine and/or the Nutshell in particular, and I can provide things like DW invite codes on demand, as can other players if I ever run out. Alternately, if you know anywhere that's good for advertising this sort of RP, please let me know and/or feel free to plug it yourself (I can provide "ad copy" on request).

I can be contacted at sariel_di and inanutshell_mod here on LJ, at the same accounts or in_media_res on DW, or at sariel.di at gmail dot com for those who prefer e-mail, if you have any questions, comments, requests, whatever.

Hoping to see more people at the Nutshell soon!
