Kagome is soft.
Not like me.
My body, full of scars from years of fighting as a demon slayer, is hard and rough. Rigid. Like that of a true warrior.
Like a true warrior I am proud of my strength, but when I carry her soft, pliant body on my back, when I feel the very core of her trusting innocence and naivete, it makes me long to indulge in her softness.
Indulgence is weakness, and I cannot be weak; I am the only one who can protect her heart from the cruel realities of this life.
I must stay firm.
For Kagome.
Others would take away her softness. They would rend the softness from her heart until only a hardened pit remained.
With a hardened heart, Kagome could train her body. Inuyasha would get rid of that soft, useless human girl.
With a hardened heart, Kagome could destroy the world. Naraku would make her taint it with indifference.
With a hardened heart, Kagome would cease to exist. My light at the end of the tunnel would cease to exist.
So I stand firm.
Even when all I want to do is fall into her softness.
