TV show rambling ahoy!
Does anyone on my flist watch Warehouse 13? I just mainlined all three seasons and I am going to babble delightedly about it underneath a cut.
First things first: OH MY GOD COULD THIS SHOW BE ANY GAYER.
Okay, first season, there's Artie and his long lost evil ex-boyfriend as a whole big thing, jeez. When MacPherson is a ghost-like-entity and they sort of reconcile in "Mild Mannered"? I mean DAMN. "This used to be our house, James. I never wanted you gone, I wanted you back. I miss my partner. And now because of this...we're connected forever. Maybe you knew that would happen, maybe that's why you put it my pocket." I'm sorry your ex died in your arms, Artie. It was very tragic, I know. *pets*
Then in the second season, we get the epic Les Yay that is Myka and H.G. Wells holy mother of god could they have been ANY more blatantly girlfriends? Even after H.G. goes evil again, the few times she pops up in S3, especially in the finale, it's so much like they're struggling with the feelings they still have for one another. "We did make a good team, didn't we?" -- "We did. I just wish you would've realized that sooner." -- "So do I."
And then of course there are the fact that H.G. and Steve are canonically queer, and can we talk about how awesome it is that they're queer and they're not The Queer Characters, TM. They're characters who also happen to be queer. It's awesome.
AND THE REACTIONS. Oh Pete, I love Pete. Steve comes out to him and Myka and his reaction is to TAKE OFF HIS SHIRT and be like, "Finally! Someone will appreciate this!" Oh Pete, ilu Pete, never change.
There's also the whole "chosen family" thing, and how wonderful it is. I mean, in Pete's words to Claudia: "The three of us, we're your family too. I mean, I'm like your big brother, and Myka's like your big sister. And Artie's so much like your dad it's kind of annoying." XD
Saving the best for last: the characters themselves. I just. Characters are my bread and butter. Worldbuilding is fine, whatever, and solid plots are great, but characters? Characters are what I live for, and I love these characters. I love silly, funny, childlike but badass and intensely loyal Pete, snarky, observant, brilliant Myka, Claudia and her genius hacking and tinkering and dryness, Artie and his grumpy affection for them all, it's wonderful. <3
THIS SHOW, YOU GUYS. WATCH THIS SHOW. I want to delight in it with people!
