And here we have the next round of commentary!
Open For Business, a Fake News fic, as requested by
themistoklis.
Hahaha, um, man, this fic. Unfortunately I don't have a whole lot to say about this one-it's pretty cracky, and almost entirely self-indulgent. Basically, it was inspired by
politicette, who of course came up with the entire suggestion in the first place. I decided to take the idea and run with it, making it all the more dirty in the process-Stephen being so young was basically the first thing that came to mind, and I had to do it, haha. Really, it's not even all that kinky, especially compared to some of the other things I've written, but never have I finished a fic and thought, "My god, this is filthy." as much as I did after writing this one!
So Stephen's so very inexperienced here, but obedient, and that is helpful. Also fun. I mean, we all know how much I love subby!Stephen. This was a perfect opportunity to have that aspect of his personality shine without it necessarily being the main component of the fic, and I had fun with that.
I actually do have further...notes, I guess we'll say, in my head, about how this whole thing plays out. Suffice it to say, poor Stephen gets his heart broken, because I'm terribly mean that way. But, really, he's young and he doesn't know any better-of course he thinks he's found love. Poor baby. At least he's young. I'm sure he'll bounce back.
Confession, a Polyfaceted fic, requested by Kat.
Oh, Flavia.
I do like Flavia, and I feel for her. There are things that each of Augusto's girlfriends give up in being with him, and I think she feels them pretty strongly. The underlying theme of this one is that: of course regrets don't invalidate happiness, but neither does happiness automatically invalidate any regrets one might have.
Because she does have regrets. She misses out on things she always dreamed of, and she feels that loss keenly. But she also recognizes that she has found the love of her life, and sometimes that kind of love requires sacrifices. She can deal with that, and she will, and be happy-but that doesn't make things perfect.
The first section is two dates after Augusto told her about his wife and family and the arrangement. That's a blow-she's already pretty much head over heels, after all. She comes from a fairly conservative, traditional family, and it's not something she's ever thought about or considered before. She tries to seriously consider not going back to him, but in the end it's just not going to happen. She's way too in love with him by this point. So she pretends, in a way, that things are okay, and as it turns out, they are-but she still knows what she's getting herself into.
The second section has her coming to terms with the fact that no, she won't get to marry him, she won't get the fanfare that she wished for, but she will get him, and their baby, and that may just be enough.
Still, it's a wistful sort of happiness-bittersweet.
I enjoy Flavia and Arianna's friendship a lot, and I'm glad they have it-Flavia really needed a friend other than Augusto in this whole thing. Martina would be cordial enough, of course, but there's no way it'd be anything more. Having Arianna's friendship is one of the other truly great things to come out of Flavia's relationship with Augusto, and she knows that.
It's even more apparent in the last section, when she's sitting with Arianna, knowing her friend is soon going to die. There are so many things she has because of her life with Augusto that she wouldn't trade for the world-but by the same token, there are just as many things she never got to have, and occasionally, she wonders.
Ultimately, she is at peace with the trade off, but that doesn't mean she has no regrets.
Eventually, she'll realize that's okay.
Making Sense, another Polyfaceted fic, also requested by Kat.
This was a prompt from Kelly, Lucille telling David she's asexual, and it also worked perfectly for a bingo prompt.
Given how thoroughly sexual David is, the fact that his favorite kid is asexual amuses me kind of a lot. That juxtaposition always makes me giggle. It's a Thing that David actually has a sex addiction, so him finding the idea of asexuality to be just nonsensical is so him. Because he's David. He Does Not Get It. At least, not in practice.
Not that he really cares, though-after all, it means she's not having sex, and he is totally in favor of that plan. Oh, David.
I just have to enjoy Lucille's amusement here, though. It's such a fond patience. She knows her dad isn't really going to understand, but she also knows it'll be okay, and she is not at all woried. Honestly, David's relationship with Lucille is pretty normal, all things considered, which given that it's David is a little trippy, lol. I think it's pretty awesome, though.
Three left to go! At least for now. Feel free to
request if you haven't yet.
