The last few days have been really warm so I've opened the doors and windows to let some fresh air in. This girl loves fresh air and after a long and stagnant winter I will open every nook and cranny to air things out. My two cats have been coming and going in and out of the house. One of my cats has been bringing these sweet little garter ( Read more... )

Thank you. I've drank about four cups of yarrow tea and it seems to be helping. I've taken it before with good effects. My mom is like the local herbalist/gardener/astrologer, its so funny. She's always helping the devotees in the neighborhood (a lot of us live on the same street as the temple), including me which I am super grateful for and will miss when I move to NYC this summer.

"people" have been advising cat owners not to let their cats outside right now because they are susceptiable to getting the bird flu and then giving it to you too.
the red cross has issued forms for disaster assistance workers and their families to get the vaccine should it reach epidemic porportions in this country like it already has in europe and asia.

Take the info as you will. but if you kept the cats in, they couldn't catch snakes to bring home. lol.

This is pretty much the same thing as the SARS epidemic, except that animals didn't get sars and animals are the main carrier of the bird flu.
i'll leave it up to you to get paranoid or not.

After I read this I checked around the internet for stories of cats carring the avian flu but I couldn't find any, only that the avian flu is spreading across Europe and now in Alaska. If you come across any links about cats and the avian flu would you send them to me? I'm very interested. One of my cats is a street cat and I know he would go crazy to be kept indoors. As of right now he basically spends 90% of his time outside. He mainly comes in to eat. My other cat is more domestic and I would have no problem keeping her indoors.

I know you're on top of this kind of stuff though because you have quite a few cats of your own. How have you been handling the situation?

mine are all indoor cats though, even though most of them were origionaly feral cats. I have one cat that likes to sneak out, but i worry about him cause he's usually gone for most of the day, so I dont like to let him out.

i'll ask my dad if he has had any articles about cats getting the avian flu.
