haruka rp brainstorming.

How to create a Haruka RP, hm~~~♥. I myself grew up on forum RP and am most familiar with that and real-time RP, but since we're all here, LJ community is probably the way to go. XD

Structured but casual fun is my vision. And lots of Hachiyou love. :) If we can get even one good story out of this, I think it will have been a success!

I'm totally psyched by the idea. *dork!* As long as I had some time to really think on character motivation (not as much time is needed for characters I've written thus far but there are some I'd want to delve deeper into) I think I could do almost anyone from 1 or 3. I admit, though, that with how great my love of 3 is that I'd prefer to end up there as I don't think there are as many people who know it very well. People who only have access to the anime, movie, and OVA's would most likely want to do something with a character from 1 anyway. If you're curious about what I've written so far in 3 (aside from my fanfics which are all tagged under "harutoki" on scrawlwall) then I could email you the logs I've participated in and finished. Let me know if you're interested, though I warn you: the ones that are finished do tend toward a higher rating. -_-;

Assuming the setup for the RP would be an lj comm (with possible personal journals for the characters), I'm not sure which of the suggestions you proposed would work best. The first idea sounds more flexible and would allow for RL when necessary (and I've seen RPs that fall apart because they don't take that into account), and so that's a plus for a multi-storyline idea. The second and third ideas, involving a kind of permanent cast make me hope that if you were to decide to go that route that the RP would be made up of a group of HaruToki fans that would dedicated and know enough about the series (or be willing to learn from people that do know) to keep the story going at a reasonable pace. In other words, what I'm trying to say is that I can't decide between the two. *headdesk* Not much help, am I?

As far as flocking goes, I would think anything of a lower-rated nature should be left open so that anyone who might be interested in joining can see what's going on. Having the higher-rated parts flocked could be an incentive to get someone to join, but would also protect the RPers if that were to become an issue.

The only issue I immediately forsee is that whoever plays the Miko is gonna get pulled in at least eight directions at once, since that's the whole darn point of the series. But it might also be interesting to see how the people playing the Hachiyou would interact, both at the start and after she starts getting closer to some of them.

Couple other things I've thought of:
RPs with a mod/mods who enforce a posting policy (at least one post per certain amount of time) tend to stay alive a lot longer than ones with lax rules. This also seems to include RPs where character journals aren't necessary. I know maintaining another whole journal can be bothersome for a lot of people (myself included, I think), but it seems to me that the more a person invests themselves in an RP the more likely they are to stick with it. Plus, that's a good way for characters to interact on a small scale (through commenting on posts) rather than always in logs. There would have to be a reason for everyone to have a journal, but I'll get to that in my next comment.

It's hard for me to tell with the first idea for setup that you proposed whether or not this is what you were thinking, but personally I think it would be a good idea for people to be able to claim characters that they get to RP exclusively (unless something in RL keeps them from being able to get involved for an extended period of time, in which case they would probably drop the character), if for no other reason than for continuity's sake. (I know I would get attached to a chara as I wrote them, so...) And along with having permanent charas, a limit on how many a person could claim would be a good idea too, if that was how you decided to set it up. For example, start with a limit of two and if a person has show themselves capable and wanted a third chara then the mod(s) could decide if that was a good idea.

Just some things to think about.

Randomly, flight_of_ideas and I were talking about possible ways in which all three series could get involved at once, and this was the best thing we came up with:
The Ryuujin/Hakuryuu's power goes haywire and brings all manner of people related to the storyline into modern (Akane/Karin/Nozomi's world) times. The idea would probably be to center it in Kamakura since we have place names for that city rather than Tokyo thanks to Labyrinth. (Plus Nozomi's and the Arikawa's house are next door to each other for ease of people getting together - the only problem is trying to get all of them in two houses?) This also would allow for people who join the RP at a later time than its begining to just show up in the town or be found by other RPers. You could be one of the Hachiyou, an Oni, or even Kiyomori (or as I like to call him, the angry yellow butterfly) if you so wish. There should probably be a big overlying plot of "what the heck happened to the ryuumyaku to cause all this?" so that there's some kind of point to opening the RP in the first place.

Getting back to the "why do we need journals?" thing from the previous comment, it could be something set up by the 3 Miko to keep everyone in contact with each other so that people can go off in small groups or by themselves to search for causes and ways to fix the ryuumyaku problem. *shrugs* It's one idea for how and/or why to get the story going. I know it may seem like a silly problem given that Labyrinth dealt with ryuumyaku problems too, but I can't think of a better way to get all 3 series in one place. -_-; RPs have been built on flimsier ground than this...

I don't know that I would have the time to run and enforce an RP on my own, or that any one person could, but I would volunteer to help and be a co-mod.
