Running log

Around 7 miles on the beach; fog; no horizon line, almost complete darkness. Spooky. Luckily there was no driftwood to trip on.

My friend Rick has me on what seems like a very reasonable training plan. This is a relief as my last training plan was written by my friend Todd on the back of a used golf score card after a few beers. (Todd had never run a marathon before.) My long run will either be tomorrow or Sunday; I'm thinking Sunday, it depends how I feel. I might run 5 tomorrow and 10 Sunday. My back has really been bothering me.

I'm watching "Moonlight" right now and they just did a very goofy Six Million Dollar Man/Knight Rider effect where they slo-moed Nick jumping off a very small flight of steps. It would have been much more impressive had he jumped from something a shade higher.

Today I handed in my dissertation fellowship application; apparently about half the applicants usually get one from our department, and four of us applied--3 in composition, and me, the lone literature applicant. I'm not sure if that's going to help me or hurt me, but I know that the three applying with me are bound to have excellent apps, so it's a bit worrying. I could definitely use the $15 grand next year.
