Bad Day: Not Really

“No, no, no, no, no, no, noooooo...”

stardustii  moaned as the elevator gave a little shudder and jerked to a stop. The lights, too, went off and she knew, with every fibre of her being that she was trapped.

This was awful. This was so awful that it had even gotten her speechless!

She was trapped in the elevator, fifteen minutes late for work, on the first day of her new job with a supervisor that had explicitly told her that she did not tolerate tardiness.

Splendid.

To think that she had actually woke up early in the morning feeling really good.

‘This is going to be a good day.’ She remembered thinking to herself while eating her toasts. And now, she had officially jinxed herself and she was going to be fired even before she started work.

It was only when a voice said, “You alright there?” did she realise that she had been banging her head against the elevator walls. She stopped immediately, embarrassed.

“Yeah,” She sighed. She looked at her slightly blurred reflection in the walls of the elevator. She was dressed in a suit of white paired with turquoise shoes and a matching scarf that she had just brought specially for today.

And now...

She didn’t even want to think about things.

“Smile,” He said, she marvelled over how his voice could sound so gentle yet commanding altogether, “It’s not nice to see a frown on a beautiful woman’s face.” He paused for a while as a grin tug at her face, “You want to talk about it?”

She sighed, the smile sliding off her face, “I worked so hard to get this job! I went through numerous interviews and you have no idea how hard it was to pass through Madame Daphnia’s interview! And... And I actually liked Madame Daphnia! And now... Now I’m going to lose my job even before I’ve actually started it all thanks to this stupid elevator!”

It was as if saying it out loud made it more so factual,
stardustiifelt like crying. Really, now all she wanted to do was to sit in front of the telly watching chick flicks while eating tubs of chocolate ice cream.

She liked being an interior designer. She liked looking at the faces of her clients when they see her work. She liked knowing that she helped someone realise their dream homes. And to top it all, she liked the prospect of working at Halls & Berry, one of the most famous interior design companies worldwide.

And she had to screw it up by getting trapped in an elevator.

The stranger in the lift let out a small chuckle and she turned to glare at him. He took a step towards her and grinned, “Don’t worry,” he tipped her chin up slightly so that their eyes met, “if you ever lose your job, I’ll employ you.”

Then he leaned in to drop a soft kiss on her lips. His lips met hers for but a moment or two, but to
stardustiiit felt like a lifetime. Just as she was about to kiss back, he pulled away with a smile.

And before she could even comprehend what was happening, the lift opened (almost magically) and he strode out, leaving her with a name card in her hand.

Draco Malfoy, CEO of Malfoy Interior Designs.

Well maybe this day wasn’t turning out to be so bad after all.
