It was a great day with Joy. :)
Today has been a day devoted to the finer things, such as working out, eating hotdogs, and watching good baseball.
Joy and I got up this morning, ate breakfast, then hit the gym. We have been going almost every day... doing our best to get fit. Today, I did 15 minutes on the elliptical, 45 minutes heavy-ish weights, then 20 minutes of swimming. I swam 500 meters-- and was able to do 400 meters in a row without stopping. That's a first... EVER. Between swimming and the elliptical machines, I now have plenty of aerobic and cardio exercise which doesn't put too much strain on my knees. This is a god-send.
This afternoon, we went to see the Baseball College Classic at Minute Maid Park. I had been dreaming of the hotdog I was going to get... a foot long affair slathered in deli mustard and covered with onions... But what I got wasn't exactly what I had been dreaming about, and I think the spell is over! I feel like I have lead in my stomach instead of hotdog bits!
Lucky us, we got to go upstairs to a club level event that the Rice Alumni put on. I saw people I vaguely recognized, and got to see how it would be to have club seats to games. Nice.
The game was great, tied in the 9th when we scored a home run to lead 4-3, but then... last out and someone on UT's team hit a homer. bummer. It had been fun when all those people in the orange shirts sat down and shut up! We were severely outnumbered, and they really were well-matched. Rice had a sweet double play in the first game, and there definitely was some good teamwork going on. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them as the season continues.
I didn't realize how much I missed baseball. I can live without the hotdogs (literally, not figuratively!) but I can't bear to part with the feeling of seeing your favorite player hit a grand slam. :)
