Well, it's official: I'm back in Ames.
I had an amazing time in California, though. Sadly, I did not meet either Rosie or Jamie, but it's okay. I probably would've just thrown the book at them and screamed at them in Spanish to read their own damn "ultimo secreto." Anyway, I really did have fun spending time on the USC campus and going to Pasadena and Laguna Beach.
Once I got back, I realized missing four days of school can really suck. I had a total of four tests to make up, and I am now down to three. Yes!
I blame my failure to catch up on the Superintendent Search Committee on which, as I found out just yesterday, I apparently am. I spent second lunch and a good portion of the first Honors Chem. period at the "meeting." This "meeting" consisted of several high school students and middle school students talking to a representative from Ray & Associates, which is the company that has been hired to recruit a new superintendent for Ames. Of course, the school board picked the company that shares our current superintendent's name. That was fairly amusing for all of two seconds.
But the middle school students did provide some level of entertainment during the "meeting." The company representative (we'll call him the "Ray rep" from here on) asked us questions about what qualities we would like to see in our next superintendent, what issues the new superintendent would have to deal with, etc. When asked what the superintendent will face in the future, one of the middle school students said racism. This, of course, piqued the interest of the "Ray rep," and he asked the student to elaborate. The student explained that racism has to do with racial tensions (no, really?), and this could possibly be an issue in the Ames school district. Possibly.
On the whole, it was an interesting and damp day.
