16 weeks and all is well

I had my 16 week check-up today and everything seems to be right on track. I was actually a little surprised by how short the appointment ended up being:  just blood pressure and weight, a few minutes of questions with the midwife, measuring my uterus, and then listening to the baby’s heartbeat. It was really hard to hear the heartbeat at my previous (11 week) check-up but today there was no doubt it was there. That's always a relief.  Not that I really have any reason to worry, but there are always those fleeting moments of fearing the worst.  The midwife was saying that the baby was moving around a lot and really active… maybe that’s why I am having trouble sleeping at night - I’m incubating a triathlete, or maybe a gymnast :) I think we are going to have a pretty active little one on our hands.

I also opted to get my blood drawn for the quad screen (measures probability of Down’s Syndrome and other neuro disorders). I was on the fence about this, but I do like information - and we should know the results by the end of this week.

My next ultrasound is in 4 weeks (hopefully when we can find out the sex) and the next check-up in 6. In the mean time, I’m supposed to increase my fiber intake and try to exercise a bit more.
