On Friday I went rock climbing up Rock Canyon. I hadn't been since last september. It was great. Logan took Scott, Me, and Becca. Half the adventure was getting there (Logan's car broke down, poor guy). But we made it and I did two climbs. One with much coaching as I got stuck about five feet from the top. but Logan climbed down on a daisy chain and talked me through it. Then I layed on a cliff (very very literally. I was daisy chained in the whole time because it was more of a ledge about a hundred feet up). then we climbed even higher and stared in wonder at those lead climbing the face of a three hundred foot cliff. We all rappeled off the giant cliff. It took me about a half hour to even lean off the cliff, I had never just rapelled, it was terrifying. But I made it. The second leg of the trip was much better, the rocks were more jagged, but it wasnt a straight drop, so it just took more strategy.
I spent the night with my mother wandering University Avenue. The parade on Saturday is a really big deal here and every inch (not an exaggeration) of public grass had a tent or blankets on it staking out the best spots for the parade in the morning. Half the town slept on the streets last night. My mother and I decided to discover the street fair. I was expecting something along the lines of MV's, but not the case. The booths went on forever, weaving up and down the streets. There were hypnotists, giant devices to shoot people up in the air, trapezes for children (so dangerous), and food from all over. I bought cotton candy and it was so crowded that it required me to hold it directly above my head simply to keep it from rubbing against other people (gross).
Yesterday I woke up early and walked to Mountainwood. The goal was to see the hot air balloons take off this morning at seven. But I was early and Scott was still in the shower, so I stood in the middle of the parking lot and saw them launch from the field nearby. It was wonderful. To see them just floating over my head probably only thirty feet up blowing fire into their giant balloon (pigs, patchwork, smokey the bear, patriotic, lots). It was a really neat sight.
Then we walked to the launch pad and waited for more.
The parade started at nine. Apparantly Provo's parade is fourth in the nation (kind of ridiculous, but alright.) So Carly, Scott, and I wandered the route until we found some distant relatives of mine who had staked out a spot (it was the Hanson reunion this weekend). We sat covered in blankets during the pre parade as it started raining. There were around a dozen high school bands, princesses of every excuse imaginable, and bag pipes galore. The floats were pretty incredible.
Carly and I wandered back to Applewood and talked. Then naps were in order and my duties to school (Uncle Tom's Cabin).
We met up with Scott again that night and drove to my Great Aunt Joyce and Cindy's house. There was a barbecue that involved much laughing and playing with a little girl named Brianna whow as really good at the game we were playing (no idea the name). Then bubbles with little Henry and his brother Malcolm. (both with bowl cuts. gah.)
Scott, Carly, and I had thrown a blanket down on a lawn outside the dorms to watch Stadium of Fire so we layed and watched and talked and laughed some more. Scott is the funniest kid I know, he makes me feel like a kid again. The fireworks were incredible! I've never seen a show that people actually pay money for (not us cheap college kids, but those actually in the stadium, not the grass nearby).
Life is so good. i love everything about it. I love school, I love my job, I love my apartment, I love every person in my life.
