years ago, they headed to his car together.
engaged in some conversation
the flyer that sat on his windshield angered him, advertisements in parking lots are so annoying.
he crumpled it up to throw on the ground.
she had sat in the co-pilot seat and silently watched the scene unfold.
Would he really throw it on the ground?
He knew she was watching him, and he thought better of it, and climbed into the car.
He tossed the crumpled flyer over his shoulder into the back seat.
He smiled largely, with his bottom crooked teeth, very visible, "you make me a better man."

She smiled softly, she knew he meant it, but it bugged her slightly later, even though he didn't throw it on the ground in front of her, would he have anyway?

Years later, they remember this incident. By nature, she never would have considered throwing paper on the ground, its easy to find a trash can or put it in your car and take care of later.
Its a silly concept the whole thing, will he throw it on the ground?

but its the moral compass.

this small example leads to larger ones.

She didn't want him to think about it, she wanted it to be natural, ... It's natural not to litter, not to lie, not to steal, to help homeless... she felt it was a larger scale it weighed on...

they don't walk to his car together anymore, things have changed.

Today he walked to his car, he saw the flyer in the window and crumpled it up with no thought. but the hard part for him was, he was different he no longer considered throwing it on the ground... But it was because of her. She was no longer in his life, so he could throw it on the ground and not feel guilty. But he saw it differntly now so he couldn't. But just as much thought was put into tossing it into the back seat. It was like letting her win, that this small influence of hers won out. How many other influences won out in his life? how many "flyers" would he come across that would make him stop and think. his old way of thinking was ruined. He could either fight it, or accept it.

He stood outside of his car, clutching the flyer in his hand tightly. His mind was whirled.
