National Library Week!
So, this week is National Library Week. Fun. Last year, we wore all sorts of different costumes representing different parts of the Dewey Decimal System. Lots of fun. Customers came in every day to see what we would wear next.
This year, we have a theme for every day. Monday was library t-shirt day (I wore an old Summer Reading t-shirt that I borrowed from Mom--purple!). Tuesday was red shirt day (I wore a "Fear the Turtle" t-shirt--good timing, too, as the women's basketball team just won the NCAA women's championship last night). Wednesday (today) was hat day. I wore my graduation mortarboard with a bright "2002" on the top (hee hee). Not as amusing as some of the hats that were around! Tomorrow is Dewey Decimal day, so I'll probably come up with some computer costume. I can't wait for Friday, though, which is literary character day. I'm all set to dress up as Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter books. I've got the right hair for it. :)
Another cool thing is these fluorescent yellow and pink footprints I made that lead across the library floor to the foreign language room, with little speech bubbles that say "Follow me to the Foreign Language Section" in several languages (English, French, Spanish, Hebrew, and German, with hopefully Chinese to follow once Mason comes to work). Lots of people have enjoyed following the footprints to see where they go. The purpose is to highlight the Foreign Language room, which we aren't sure that many people are aware of. Of course, it's only of use to people who read a foreign language (or are trying to learn to read one), but given that we *do* have a large number of people who do... well, if the footprints don't work, we'll have to resort to one of those search lights that used-car dealerships use to advertise sales. Or give up.
I'm actually trying to read the Harry Potter books in French right now. I'd started the first one but then accidentally left it at Mom and Dad's when I was there last weekend, so I've skipped to book 4 (the earliest one we had in stock here at the library). I read it with the English version available to refer to (and I do, frequently, although decreasingly). I've learned all sorts of new phrases ("de nouveau," "ne peut pas s'empecher") and words (les manches, les epaules, les coudes). Hogwarts is translated to Poudlard, which I find endlessly amusing. Bouche bee (literally, "open-mouthed") seems to be used in place of "he/she gaped."
We don't own HP book 6 in French, but maybe by the time I finish books 1-5, we'll have it. Or, if not, I might be able to buy it. I'm hoping to maybe ask for a few French books (Ella Enchanted -- Ella L'Ensorcelee for one) for my birthday in June.
Anyway, time to head home for Veronica Mars! Tonight, 9pm! Best show on television! :) In my humble opinion, anyway.
