SJA crew as companions. And...discuss.

I've been thinking about this for a while; if the Doctor was going to take one of the SJA crew as a Companion, which one? (Let's assume for the sake of discussion that he can only take one for whatever reason ( Read more... )

I'd pick Clyde if he was only going to take one - but I'd prefer him to take Clyde and Rani.

Agreed! I think Clyde had good chemistry with both Ten and Eleven, and I'd love to see more of that.

Daniel Anthony also worked really well with Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor in the Big Finish audio Wirrn Dawn (he wasn't playing Clyde by te way) - he's just great with Doctors!

Yes. I was thinking that too. :)

Clyde gets my vote too, he'd take it all in his stride and have us laughing until we cry. He also showed us in series five that he can do emotional very well too; believable and not in a pantomime way. Because, lets face it, if you embark on an adventure with the Doctor, it's not all going to be fun and games.

Maria is my favourite and of course I would love to see her gadding about with the Doctor. However, I've already picked her off to join Torchwood in several of my fics and I think that would suit her better.

...have you really? ::wanders nonchalantly over to your journal to look::

Yeah, Clyde would be brilliant at the happy and the sad episodes!

I'm currently in the middle of NaNoWriMo and it's an epic Torchwood/SJA crossover with Maria as the star. There's a bit of SJ/Maria unrequited love/eventual femslash in there too, so apologies if you get squicked out by it.

Not at all - I'm not a PWP fan, but more or less anything else goes. Is it on your journal, or it's not finished yet?

I think Luke would be fine if it was a Companion pairing in the tradition of Ian/Barbara, Ben/Polly, Jamie/Zoe, the Team TARDIS of the Davison era, Martha/Jack, and Amy/Rory.

I think Alan and Maria would distinguish themselves quite well for a few trips.

But Clyde would be a perfect fit for either the Tenth or the Eleventh Doctor.

Luke and Rani, Luke and Clyde, Luke and Maria - perfect. Luke on his own...I just don't think so. And you know how much I love Luke.

Alan and Maria, or just Maria, yeah, brilliant. But Clyde, definitely the best. Eleven is companion-less! How brilliant if he picked up Clyde in the next series? It could even be a few years into the future so Clyde would be closer to Daniel's age!

I don't know about with Eleven, but I have long thought that Maria would be an excellent choice for companion in the future. I know Yasmin had to leave SJA because of schooling but that won't last forever, and I think her character was very bold and decisive but also could understand humanity and sympathy, having dealt with a difficult family situation at an early age. It would also be an interesting and original twist to have someone come on board who wasn't totally unfamiliar with the Doctor, the TARDIS, and the world he lives in, but still could exhibit the wonder at leaving earth to have adventures somewhere else- while still being able to keep her head about her due to her own experience.

Maria would be great, yeah. It'd be cool if while she was a Companion they met Kudlak or someone Maria knew and the Doctor didn't, and she could be the brainy one! :D

Oh yeah, Clyde all the way. Out of all four of them, he's the one who's gotten the most out of the adventures: from arsy troublemaker who's enjoying not having to serve chips while he can, to someone who's realized that he can be whatever he wants to be and do whatever he wants to do, and damn what anyone thinks of him. The others all have their shtick, their defining trait (Luke's a genius, Rani wants to be a journalist...), but Clyde is the one who over the course of the series has found his shtick.

But you can't just have two dudes in the TARDIS, it doesn't work that way. Rani would be the obvious choice, what with the crush they're pretty obviously nursing for each other... I can just see Eleven not being oblivious for once and deciding that this will simply not do and spend the entire season trying to get them to notice each other. But at the same time I don't think bringing in two SJA characters at the same time would work/happen. The Doctor would probably pick up some new woman, and it would be over the course of the ( ... )

Aw, I'm sorry you're sad. That was a very well thought-out comment, though, if that helps.

My mental image went something like this:

"Clyde! Wonderful! How's Sarah doing?"

...now I'm sad!

Clyde would still be an excellent Companion, though. We should start a campaign! :D
