yes and lover lover lover lover lover lover lover come back to me...

I love Leonard Cohen.
I honestly dont know how I lived 20+ years without him. (I was introduced while working at the music store I used to work at starting my sophomore year of college.)
I can't even begin to describe his music, his voice, his lyrics. It's all so perfect and so amazing.

The synthesizer-heavy stuff doesnt really float my boat as much as the dreamy, mostly-just-guitar other stuff.

His songs can make me dance around the kitchen or just as easily reduce me to tears.

If youre not familiar with him, seek his music out.
Maybe you know a couple of them - they've been covered endlessly... Jeff Buckley belting out Hallelajuh? That's Cohen's. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds does a cover of Tower of Song - pretty amazing.

I'm resigned to know that I'll most likely never see Mr. Cohen perform live.  But I can read his books and listen to his songs and that's fine by me.

Oh and I can see this movie (which I was reading about in the paper this morning and just the blurb nearly made me cry)...

(sigh)

His music just sounds so effortless.
I imagine that he just stands there and it comes out. No scribbling, no pondering, no takes and retakes. I'm sure that's not true but that's how I envision it.
It's always a little disarming when a man has a beautiful voice. (though apparently he doesnt think so, I recently found this quote by him: "Only in Canada could somebody with a voice like mine win 'Vocalist of the Year'." -from when he was getting a Juno Award.)

I can't completely put my finger on just what's so magical about this man and his music... Maybe Moggy can help me out here? It can't just be because he's Canadian, right? ;)

Yeah, that's all, you can go about your day now.
I'm going to listen to Leonard Cohen and try to get some work done.

Happy Friday.

"I sing this for the crickets, I sing this for the army
I sing this for your children and all that do not need me..."

Tonight We'll Be Fine
Sometimes I find I get to thinking of the past.
We swore to each other then that our love would surely last.
You kept right on loving, I went on a fast,
now I am too thin and your love is too vast.
But I know from your eyes
and I know from your smile
that tonight will be fine,
will be fine, will be fine, will be fine
for a while.

I choose the rooms that I live in with care,
the windows are small and the walls almost bare,
there's only one bed and there's only one prayer;
I listen all night for your step on the stair.

But I know from your eyes
and I know from your smile
that tonight will be fine,
will be fine, will be fine, will be fine
for a while.

Oh sometimes I see her undressing for me,
she's the soft naked lady love meant her to be
and she's moving her body so brave and so free.
If I've got to remember that's a fine memory.

And I know from her eyes
and I know from her smile
that tonight will be fine,
will be fine, will be fine, will be fine
for a while.

movie, music
