The King of Torts
by John Grisham
294 pages
My mom lent me this book over Christmas. Intermittently while I read it, I thought, have I read this book before? I might have read this book before. But even having finished it, I still can't say for certain. This may be because, even though John Grisham is a good writer, you can only do so many books of a similar theme and he's reached his limit. Or it may be that I am bad at remembering books I have read. In any event, this book was okay and if I was reading it for the second time, I didn't mind.
So, I read 22 books in 2011, which is not bad. My goal for 2012 is different though: there are currently 12 books on my nightstand that I have not read, and I am going to finish all of them. 12 might not sound like alot, but they are mostly nonfiction, and mostly very long. For instance, there is what I'm certain is a humdinger of a biography of FDR, a history of street names in New Orleans, a history of the death penalty, and Carl Bernstein's biography of Hillary Clinton, just to name a few. But, I am determined to read them, because it will accomplish several sub-goals at once: (1) saving money for my wedding and student loans that I am not spending buying hardbacks when I do in fact have unread books at home as well as a library card; (2) staying updated and informed about something other than my files at work; (3) doing something with my evenings other than watching my Sex & the City DVDs and Googling people I know and; (4) organizing my piles of books--for those of you who have visited my apartment, you should know that as of this weekend there is NO LONGER a huge pile of my books in the corner of the living room gathering dust under a towel. Yes, we are classing it up here at Chez Sara & Dave in 2012.
