Mamas for Obama

Oct 31, 2008 08:43

For the last month or so, we have been trying to teach Asher to say "Obama." Although he can say each of the syllables, he is resistant to our Reindeer Games.

Say, "Oh!"
"Oh."
Say, "Bah!"
"Bah!"
Say, "Mah!"
"Mah!"
Say, "Oh - Bah - Mah!"

Nevertheless, the child clearly recognizes Obama all the time. We watched all of the debates on TV, the Democratic National convention, and some rallies. During one of them, the convention I think, Mommy got a little tipsy on democracy and vodka (2:1). The crowd was cheering and shouting "Obama!" I pounded my fist in the air and shouted, "Mamas for Obama!" over and over.

Asher picked up the gesture immediately. Now, whenever he sees Barack Obama, on TV or in print, he signs by pounding his fist in the air.

He has not invented a sign for Stephen Colbert yet, but I expect it's only a matter of time.
