Episode Notes: Sentinel "Out of the Past"

Dec 07, 2006 22:30

After the *wonderfulness* of Flight, this episode is something of a disappointment. I mean seriously, there's no one who doesn't act like an idiot in this one (except Simon, he stays pretty with it). Angie Ferris is a dingbat, her kid Pam's a stealth-ninja child, Blair makes one very crucial stupid mistake, Weston (the bad guy) makes several ( Read more... )

Yeah, this wasn't one of my all time favs, either...but, truly, I think almost any ep would suffer coming after "Flight". And, you're right, there's still lots of pretty. I can't say I truly dislike any of the episodes, as they've always got lots of pretty in them...

-"-Okay, so Blair's obviously enjoying this music, obviously. He's apparently got pretty eclectic musical taste--because this is nothing like the grunge he was listening to in Switchman."

Hah! Wait until you watch "Red Dust"...

The other thing that bothered me about this episode was how Angie was always covering her mouth with her hands when people started fighting...I mean, how cliched can you get?

Thanks for the great commentary and the lovely pics, as always (especially of Blair)...

Angie was always covering her mouth with her hands

Have you seen the gag reel where they splice all the shots of this together, one after the other, and make a joke out of it? Very funny!

Yes! It's very amusing, and probably what made me notice it in the first place...

I think almost any ep would suffer coming after "Flight".

That is very true! "Flight" is a tough act to follow.

This one does seem especially disappointing though.

You know, I've even seen the blooper reel (a few years ago) and I totally missed that. Usually because I was watching Jim get smacked down rather than focusing on Angie.

I'm glad you enjoyed!

I think the answer to all your "what's Angie's motivation?" questions is "Whitney Houston did it..." *LOL Having said that, I loved the opening, the way it went from video to intense b/w violence to colour--very artistic for what was basically a plain ol' cop show. Our bad guy was really bad in this one--a jerk to everyone, kids to adults. As for Angie, was it just me, or did she seem a little long in the tooth to have a nine year old? The kid was a ditz, and her voice was making my ears ache--how did Jim stand it ( ... )

Maybe I'd appreciate this episode more if I'd ever seen "The Bodyguard" (I have a mild allergy to Kevin Costner, so I never did).

Hmmm, I'll have to take a look at that, because I obviously missed something. I didn't even *notice* this. *facepalm*

As for Angie, was it just me, or did she seem a little long in the tooth to have a nine year old?

Especially a nine year old who she'd had *very* young--like still in high school. So she's supposed to be like 27 or so?? Yeah, definitely a little long in the tooth. Good point!

all is totally salvaged by Blair in the fabulous red henley, with great hair and glasses!

It does rather redeem the episode doesn't it. :)

I was trying to be a little neutral about the smackdown because as a plot it was way lame, but I do rather like the idea of Jim and Blair tending to each other's wounds once they get back to the loft.

Or did Blair ( ... )

Weird rec for the Bodyguard--when it came out, I was sick to death of "I Will Always Love You" and Kevin Costner even before all the hype, so I avoided it. I did, however, read the novelization of the movie, and found Kevin Costner's character to be very interesting, and Whitney Houston's character was way less like Angie Ferris *LOL So I do recommend the book, even if you're not a big fan of so much of what made up the movie.

There are just some people (Jim and Blair) who will always be adorable in bandages...I'm sorry, it's a *thing* *LOL

I liked the song but, yes, she was a very dim damsel at times...

But the canon of the dials and such makes it a significant episode, I guess.

Thanks for sharing the caps and commentary!

Exactly!! It's kind of like "The Debt"--significant but not *good*. Sigh!!

I guess that's part of what makes episodes like Flight and Warriors, which are both significant *and* good, such treasures.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting!

Why do TPTB on this show want us to think that Jim goes after shallow relationships with a series of women who move in and out of his life?

Um, is this a rhetorical question? Given that the show was aimed (even if it missed) at an 18-35 male demographic, that fine old (not) joke about how the perfect woman turns into a pizza and sixpack of beer after sex seems to apply to TPTB's thinking. Which may not have been Messrs Bilson and DeMeo's thinking but...Mind you, that lack of stable female company does happily play into the hands of slashers, because we know why they can't commit. *eg*

And as far as Blair and Pam and placenta eating thing goes, I have a whole new and not entirely pleasant take on Blair's upbringing.

Um, is this a rhetorical question?

Not really, because they do it to guys in a *bunch* of shows. And I always think that it makes them look shallow.

*sigh* *sigh*

God! Are men really like that?? I mean, none of the men I've ever known have been like that, but maybe there's some sort of selection effect, you know. Like I've pretty much avoided the disgusting skeezers or someting.

*sigh*

Mind you, that lack of stable female company does happily play into the hands of slashers, because we know why they can't commit. *eg*

But then it makes them seem like they keep doing the nasty with a bunch of one-night-stand women and cheating on each other. Ugh!

And as far as Blair and Pam and placenta eating thing goes, I have a whole new and not entirely pleasant take on Blair's upbringing.*ears perk up ( ... )

he learned that little factoid from Naomi or something?

Maybe not that one in particular, but I really can see a very TMI relationship between the two of them - maybe too much frankness from Naomi to overcompensate for that one crucial little piece of info that she can't/won't provide.

And while many men are not skeezers (excellent word, btw) , I think that some of them might like to be...::joins you in the sighing::

Hmmm....interesting idea.

I wonder how that would affect a kid--to have his mom sharing inappropriate things like that...and I just bet that she was "open" about her relationships and so on too....

Neat to ponder!
