Cheating on your own persona
Here's the situation:
I've had a Gypsy persona for YEARS. And I've studied and researched and enjoy my persona. I noticed that no one had an earlier period gypsy persona even-though there is some research indicating earlier migrations from Persia. My persona became 12th century Persian Romani in and around Jerusalem.
Well, in order to gain more of the elusive documentation on that time period for Romani I started writing to the famed authors, experts on Romani culture. After a very hurtful reply from one I gave up for a while and went back to my old persona. I had an Italian renaissance persona years ago. Patty and I used to do Italian Personas during court and feasts and the rest of the time I had my gypsy persona and she had her middle eastern persona. It was fun. We even tied the 2 together by having her Italian ren persona (the best friend of my Italian Ren persona) have a bastard half sister (her middle eastern persona) who was the sibling of my Gypsy persona. Lol. So at feasts we'd be all snobby and say snobby things about her bastard half sister and the trash she hangs out with. And then when we were in our gypsy/middle eastern personas we'd be on the look out for the snobby half sister of Habibi. Lol.
Back to the story. So, I've been developing my Italian persona. It's been a lot of fun and the accessories have been great. :)
Lately though, I feel like I've abandoned a side of me. I miss my gypsy persona. I've been focusing so hard on my Italian that the Persian side felt like it had slipped away.
Had I cheated on my other persona?
I've promised Habibi I'd make her a Persian coat (since I didn't have time to explain the procedure before I left) and I feel kinda renewed by it. It was nice to take a break but I can't wait to get back into Romani studies again. I have a contact in Jerusalem (She's a Doctor that started a Domari foundation for Middle Eastern Gypsy education) and I think I'll get back in touch with her. Our communication is a little interesting as her English isn't great but at least its a start.
Well, I'm off to buy some nifty Persian fabric for my friend's coat and maybe even make a new one for me.
