Jessica is 27 today. She spent the day in Boston (where it is 70 degrees and sunny) with her boyfriend Christopher (who gave her a sweet "promise ring" for her birthday). They were at Fanuel Hall when I spoke to her, getting something yummy to eat and watching street performers. They've worked a lot on improving their relationship this past year and I think they have both learned a lot. One of the most important lessons they've learned is how compatible they are and how important it is to work to keep what they have together.
Chris brought Abby The Dog to visit Jess for the day as well, which was a special birthday surprise. She misses Abby almost as much as she misses Chris. Being on the island, there is no way she can have her dog stay with her (particularly because, come the end of May, she will be living on a very small sailboat for two weeks at a time).
Tonight she has a group study class and tomorrow morning she takes the first phase of the Coast Guard test for her captain's license. She's nervous, excited, happy.
It's impossible to explain how important her happiness is to me. It just fills me up.
