Took Gracie back to Dr. Berry yesterday to have him check out the mysterious swollen area on her side. He took X-rays and palpated it, but could not figure out what it was exactly. He advised that it wasn't anything to worry about--he said it wasn't in the right area of the abdomen to be related to CHF. Her EKG was normal, too. He sent her home with 10 days worth of Baytril just to see what that does.
I called Dr. Hertha later just to ask his opinion, and he said that her arthritis just might be flaring up, and sometimes the pain from that can cause dogs to lose their appetite. He let me come by HGAH and pick up an Rx for Rimadyl, just to see if it helps. (Side note: Dr. Berry had also mentioned the laxity in her hips from the abdominal radiograph.)
Today she has really made progress. She got up (without being called!) and watched me pour her food into her bowl this morning. I fear that we have spoiled her though...when I put the bowl down, she sniffed it, and then looked back up at me as if to say, "are you going to put some sauce in there or what?!" So I did, and she ate it all. We went on a walk after that, and she got excited at the site of another dog, barking and jumping just like the old Gracie!
She has also followed me around the house today, just like she normally does. She even came and "asked" me for dinner...wouldn't eat it without the sauce again, though. She's so spoiled :)
I hope the progress continues.
Thank all of you so much for all your continued prayers/thoughts/support. I love you all!
