I assume if the show had continued they would have either escaped somehow or been rescued. And I like to think they weren't trapped there forever. :/ Personally I love the idea that some of the others like Silver and Lead would have banded together to rescue them..it would have been a way to introduce more elements.
I could think of worse than to be trapped with Steel, but I think after a couple centuries even he would begin to wear. I'm with you. I'm certain that Silver would have a hand in their rescue, maybe not for Steel, but at least for Sapphire's sake.
I agree. I'm sure P.J. Hammonds had some kind of daring escape in mind, probably with the help of Silver. It would explain why he didn't end up trapped with them. Too bad the budget problems doomed the sequel. I think that fans weren't the only disappointed ones; I'm sure it was hard to accept also for the actors.
It just seems such a weird non-ending, if you know what I mean. There were so many ways they could have escaped and yet the Transuranics were that much more clever. It never sat right with me.
My boss would say, "Yeah, pretty much." It was so bizarre. I felt as if they ran out of time or the word came down that they were cancelled and the last scene was suddenly slapped together.
IIRC, it says in the liner notes for the DVD set that in the original script, Silver was in the café with the other two, and if the series had been continued he would have resolved the cliffhanger by building a time machine for them to escape in. But when it became clear the series wouldn't continue, he was removed.
I don't like unhappy endings in tv shows, so I've always thought that the other elementals tried their best to retrieve them. Maybe Silver could have pulled a trick similar to the one he pulled in Assignment 3. They could have even introduced another elemental, one who they could make have the power to rescue them.
