I am interested to see how Amy justifies buggering off the day before her wedding (hurrah finally, someone who did something worse than Rose leaving Mickey behind! Take that Rose haters! At least he wasn't her fiance!)

BAHAHAAHAHAHAHA. Oh my god, I cannot stop laughing. SO TRUE.

'm not sure I like how fundamentally different everything is without some sort of callbacks to previous seasons like it has been up till now. Like between S1-2 we had Rose there to act as a buffer for the regeneration, we experienced it along with her and from there she was a running theme for the Doctor. This regeneration the only link we got was the footage of 1-10 that the Atraxi pulled up.Well it depends on your definition of "callback." In the Moffat Loves To Quote Himself front, you have two instances of "wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey," and many others just like it. You have Eleven saying "six" (doors) to Amy in nearly the exact same way Ten said "six" (words) to Harriet Jones. These are details, of course, and not really on the same level as, like, " ( ... )

IKR? And chances are on a lot of Amy loving peoples are going to be anti-Rose (fair enough, whatever) but how many of them are going to get upset by Amy slagging off her fiance? Not many I would wager. That might just be me being cynical though, we'll have to wait and see. Fandom is a fickle mistress.

Yeah there were lots of quotes and things like that but those aside it just felt...I dunno, different. It's probably just me wanting to cling onto the familiar and disliking the massive overhaul the series has done even thought I still like it in general. As much closure as there was in EoT I don't know if it will ever be enough for me to say goodbye to all the characters and stuff I loved from the RTD era :P I am a sad, sad fangirl.

Also, how many Time Travelers Wife/AmyEleven mash up trailers do you think are going to crop up within the next few weeks?

Ooo, that's a good idea! ;) (Too bad I've already done one of those for Sawyer/Kate or I'd be mightily tempted, lol! ;) )

I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on the ep! :D And I agree, I thought the Big Spaceship Eye could've been done just a tad more realistically (or whatever you'd want to call it, considering it's a big spaceship with an eye... ;) ).

*hugs* ♥!

There's already about a zillion Doctor/Rose ones out there but IMHO I think Eleven and Amy fit it better :P very Peter Pan and Wendy.

I'm so glad somebody else was miffed at the CG on the spaceship! Considering some of the other CG work on this show in recent years I was quite disappointed :(

*hugs back*

I can see why she did it. He already ran off twice without her, just as she was getting her Wendy Darling on, so when he turns up specifically to whisk her off to Neverland, she's already seven parts convinced. He assures her that he'll get her back in time for tomorrow, although we know- and she should probably know by now- that anybody will offer odds on her getting back any day BUT tomorrow.

I am halfway in love with the new lad already. He reminds me of Eight and Five, who are my favourite pre-RTD Doctors. He seems a lot more quietly self-confident than Ten was. He still leaps around and is manic, but his "Hello, I'm the Doctor. Basically, run." was so, so different to what we're used to from Ten. Ten's comparable scene involved him holding a sword to the Sycorax's throat, declaring "No second chances" (and that stuck like bloody Teflon), and Serious Teething "IT! IS! DEFENDED!" at the rest of the Sycorax.
I like the new lad's approach better.

I can see why too but still :P it's different as well for the watchers because we all know that he's been consistently bad at hitting dates for who knows how many regenerations now and he seems to be notoriously poor at it again this time around. Granted, he needs five more bloody pilots for the TARDIS but whatever.

I think he's marvellous - and so different to Ten. I was afraid they'd be very similar but Matt couldn't be any more different, even though it's obviously still the same bloke in a different skin. I agree that Ten was often very OTT and verging on ADHD whereas Eleven is a lot...I dunno, calmer? It's like Ten was a kitten and Eleven has grown out of kitten stage into a proper cat.

Bad analogy is bad. Brain is mush from Easter. Coincidentally, how was yours? And did you ever end up getting tickets to Godot?

Eleven as a cat. I like that. It's like he can still go mental chasing a bit of string when the mood takes him, but when he gets his dignity on he gets it on good. Also, he can OUT-STARE a GIANT EYEBALL. That bit of Fridge Brilliance got that scene immediately promoted to Crowning Moment of Awesome.

I can't believe it, but I forgot about Godot. I am a bad fan (she says whilst watching the RotK EE special features disc. Hee hee, the Minas Morgul set spontaneously combusted).

Exactly.

No Godot? D: dunno if there's still tickets left now but good luck to you if you try for them.

I really MUST rewatch all my extended LotRses at some point.

Re: The CGI ITA - the bit where the crack in reality - eye looking through the wall thing was glaringly low budget in my opinion - jerked me right out of my general enjoyment of the cinematography which I thought was possibly better than it had been to date.

I could see some of Ten in there, but I wouldn't say OMG it's Ten - I have an interview with Jacqueline Rayner who wrote some Who adventures/Audiobooks and she said that writing Nine and Ten was the same, the real difference was in the delivery but the words apart from a few key phrases was the same. I can see the link between Ten and Eleven as there should be but there's very much a difference too.

Overall I liked it, but didn't LOVE it.

I was a bit thrown by some of the cinematography actually - that bit where the camera went schizo all over the grass I was like "whoa! That's new!" be interesting to see how else they're going to be experimenting with it this season if that's just the first ep. Of course, I was more thrown by the bad CG :P but that's beside the point.

Yeah me too. That said, it's early days yet so I will wait in anticipation for Moffatt to impress me big time as the season progresses :D

I probably need to rewatch it. I did watch it right after rewatching EoT 1&2 and it was practically midnight so chances are my brain was shot.

I knew there was budget cut backs this season but we've been so spoiled in the past I guess I was just sad to see the CG quality go down :( that's Gen Y for you though :P we like shiny things!

Lol, nice point about Astrid. The Moff has always been good with fleshing out characters though. I love that just like all the Doctors other companions in the new series (and the old that I've seen) is that Amy is again, a completely different person to all the other people we've seen travelling with him. There are no "stock" companions in this show, they're all brilliant and special. I admit myself looking forward to what they've got in store for Amy.
