Look at you, you sexy thing!
I enjoyed the episode, I really did, but I'm not sure I like how fundamentally different everything is without some sort of callbacks to previous seasons like it has been up till now. Like between S1-2 we had Rose there to act as a buffer for the regeneration, we experienced it along with her and from there she was a running theme for the Doctor. This regeneration the only link we got was the footage of 1-10 that the Atraxi pulled up.
Speaking of the Atraxi, did anyone else think it looked a bit...cheaply done? I like the concept of the ship with the gigantic eyeball but I wasn't as impressed with the CG as I have been with other Who monsters in recent years. It reminded me more of SJA. Prisoner Zero however was quite awesome! Those teeth! It reminded me of those deep sea fish that look like they have a mouth full of sewing pins.
Matt was excellent. A lot of people have said his Eleven reminds them of Ten but I have to disagree. I think that he's actually very different in a lot of ways. His general delivery, whilst still manic by turns is a lot more subdued and at times when Ten would have been yelling his head off and running around in circles Eleven is a lot more still and controlled. That said, he is still outrageous, annoying, arrogant and just...he's the Doctor, he is. Which is excellent.
Otherwise some great one liners and charactery stuff. I loved baby!Amy and the whole storyline there - broke my heart when she went to pack her suitcase and came back and you just know that he's going to overshoot and stuff up. I can so see Rose rolling her eyes in the alt!verse going "some things never change do they?". I love the repeated storytale motif and some very interesting parallels to Reinette and GitF with Amy. It also reminds me a bit of the movie Hook where Peter Pan keeps coming back to see Wendy and then is horrified when he realises that she's grown up and gotten old while he's been away.
I still miss Ten ridiculously and while at this point I can't see myself getting carried away with this season as I have with others I will never say never. I am interested to see how Amy justifies buggering off the day before her wedding (hurrah finally, someone who did something worse than Rose leaving Mickey behind! Take that Rose haters! At least he wasn't her fiance!) and I am honestly intrigued as some of the other spoilers I've heard around and about the place and how its going to work out by the end of the season.
Bring it on Moffat. You might've changed the whole tone of the show for me but I'm more than willing to carry on if you make it worth my while. Lets see what you've got baby! :D
Also, how many Time Travelers Wife/AmyEleven mash up trailers do you think are going to crop up within the next few weeks?
