The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing, a Traitor to the Nation

So, I'm not sure how many folks have read Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal, but it's a very funny essay satirizing Malthus and the early economists.  Basically, it suggests that since the population of Britain's poor is growing exponentially, and food shortages are on the horizon, the simplest solution is cannibalism.  Little kids can be veal.

Playing around on goodreads tonight, I encountered a series of books whose titles include the phrase "A Modest Proposal."  Clearly, none of them were intentionally referencing Swift:

Women Are Insane, Men Are Pigs: a Modest Proposal for Finally Bringing Closure Between the Sexes

Hunting for Lawyers: A Modest Proposal

Decoding and Meaning: a Modest Proposal

A Modest Proposal: a Plan for the Golden Years

and, my personal favorite:

2020: a Modest Proposal to End Abortion
