Translation - Imitation Black (VanaN'Ice)

Jul 27, 2009 23:35

This is a Vocaloid song, sung by Gakupo/Kaito/Len as Bananice VanaN'Ice. (The version I've linked is a really good real-people cover though 8D;) Did a quick translation for some friends, just slapping it up here so they can see :) Enjoy if you're into this sort of thing, lol.

歪んだ日常 許されない愛
偽りの心
黒く塗りつぶされた 不完全な愛
漆黒の世界

Gakupo: Normal life, twisted; a love that's forbidden 1
A false heart
Kaito: An incomplete love, painted over in black
An onyx-dark world 2

ずっとキミに言いたかった
たった一つの言葉なのに
抑えきれない衝動が
壊れてしまうのなら

All: Even though what I wanted to tell you for so long
Was only a single word...
If this impulse I can't suppress
will just come to nothing, then

愛し愛され 狂いそうなほどに
甘く熱いくちづけは IMITATION
麻痺する感覚 遠くなる意識
溢れる想いと真実
黒で塗り潰して

All: Let us love and be loved, until we go mad with it
Those sweet, hot kisses are an imitation
My senses numb, my mind drifts away
These overflowing feelings, this truth,
Paint over it all in black

沈んでいく月が雲と重なって
まるで影を隠すように
もう戻れないの?
このまま二人で消えてしまおう

Kaito: The sinking moon overlaps with the clouds,
as though to hide the shadows
Gakupo: Can we never go back?
Let's disappear, the two of us, just like this

いつか君と結ばれると
信じて手を離したのに
自分らしさのない愛なら
壊してしまえばいい

All: I only let go of your hand because
I believed I would be joined with you someday, but
If this love has nothing of who we are 3
Gakupo: We should destroy it all

きつく強く抱きしめて欲しくて
重なる体の温度は IMITATION
太陽が照らし 僕を困らせるから
君が見えなくなる
Please teach me the answer?

All: I want you to hold me, tightly, strongly
The warmth of our bodies pressed together is an imitation 4
The sun shines and it troubles me
I can no longer see you
Please teach me the answer?

常識もモラルもぶち壊し
罰を受けるのは僕だけでいい
最期にキミが言った
言葉を抱いて

Gakupo: We've crushed common sense and morals
I'll take the punishment on myself, 5
Kaito: Holding close
those last words you said

いつの日もキミを思うよ
抱きしめた肩の感触
溶けて消えて無くなる前に
キミに会いに行くよ

Len (?): "I think of you always
The feel of your shoulders when I hugged you
Before it melts and vanishes away,
I'll come to see you"

ゆらり揺らめく 幻想に抱かれ
君に言った言葉は IMITATION
冷たい肌に 消えない口痕
記憶のすべて何もかも黒に沈めて
堕ちていく

Gakupo/Kaito: Embraced by a shimmering illusion
The words I told you were an imitation
Marks 6 that will never vanish from your cold skin
All of my memory, everything sinks into black
And I fall 7

愛し愛され 狂いそうなほどに
甘く熱いくちづけは IMITATION
麻痺する感覚 遠くなる意識
溢れる想いと真実
黒で塗り潰して

All: Let us love and be loved, until we go mad with it
Those sweet, hot kisses are an imitation
My senses numb, my mind drifts away
These overflowing feelings, this truth,
Paint over it all in black

Notes:

1) Literally "a love that won't be forgiven" -- 'yurusu' is often used in a sense of things being allowed/not allowed. Like the only example I can think of right now is in Naruto, when Lee wants to take off his leg weights in the Chuunin exams, Gai gives his permission with "ORE GA YURUSU"

2) This is actually shikkoku or jet-black, but I just used the word black in the last line so that's boring :|

3) Literally this is uh... well, "jibunrashii" means something that is "you", in the sense of being like you/something you would normally do/something you would normally like/etc. Like if you go into a store and find a pair of shoes that fit your style PERFECTLY you might say "I have to buy these, these are totally me!" I guess another way to translate this line would be "a love that doesn't fit us" or something to that effect. It's a bit difficult to wrap one's head around.

4) Specifically, their bodies are pressed together one atop the other (kasanaru), which connotes sex. But that seemed a bit too long and unwieldy to fit into one line.

5) Literally "It's fine if only I receive the punishment". This is Gakupo's line, I think... i.e. he's volunteering to be punished so the others don't have to.

6) There's some Japanese wordplay going on here -- they sing 'kizuato', i.e. a scar, but the kanji read 'mouth-mark'. They're sort of comparing a scar to a hickey/bite during sex, lol.

7) The kanji used here specifically means to fall as in... fall from grace or goodness/holiness, in the same sense as a fallen angel.
