more small things

...that don't require you to deviate from the mainstream, if you like that sort of thing.

- If you give any business to Starbucks, know that they take 10¢ off of the price of their teas if you bring your own cup or mug. (This may apply to the rest of the menu as well, but I am not sure.) So do it! Bring your own cup and both save money help to reduce waste, and therefore slow the expansion of our landfills.

'Why throw it away when you could wash it?'

- Target now includes a cute little list of possible ways to reuse your plastic shopping bag. Follow them, or think of your own!
→ Or, if you plan to go shopping at the grocery store or elsewhere, bring an empty tote bag, or something of your own to carry out your loot in!

- Rather than throwing out old magazines: donate them (ie. I am donating them to the school gym for people to read on the treadmill), pull out interesting pages and use them as envelopes (the most simple origami there is), cut them up for collage (or give them to a school's art department for the same reason), give them to a friend, etcetera (be creative!)

- Use empty an glass bottle as a vase or a candle holder (it looks pretty neat as the wax drips!).

- Fill an empty plastic bottle (such as for soda, water or shampoo) with water and put it in the tank of your toilet to save water.

- If you don't donate your old clothes (which you should :P), they make great scrap cloth for cleaning or patching. For example, my dad and I use old t-shirts to dry a car after washing it. This way, the car is dry and won't get mineral streaks from drying naturally, and the paint won't be scratched by the soft, worn fabric.

list, refresh
