Recs for Sports Night, Due South, Heroes, and crossovers!

May 09, 2007 14:05

So because I generally FAIL at actually deciding upon themes (or even fandoms) for my recs, I simply rec to you today things that I read recently and enjoyed!

Sugar and Spice by catwalksalone
Sports Night crack!fic PG-13

So Charlie wants a sex change ... Seriously, do NOT read this while drinking ANYTHING. If you do, your keyboard will hate you for it in the morning, but the stickiness on the keys will make you giggle again at the memory of this rather AMAZING grafic. (Warning, it is all images, so I would advise getting a cup of coffee if you are on dial-up)

Spin Another Line by torchthisnow
Sports Night Dan/Casey PG

The show is ending and Dan and Casey talk about their feelings for each other. Sweet, quietly done, and I REALLY love how torchthisnow wrote everyone's feelings about the end of Sports Night.

Down Which You Fall by leda-speaks
Due South Fraser/Vecchio G

Oh man does this hurt GOOD. It makes me simultaneously cry buckets and want to smack both Vecchio and Fraser upside the head for being so bloody STUPID. Ray loves Fraser more than Fraser loves him, because Fraser is too busy blaming himself to allow happiness to creep into his life. A very sad but LOVELY look at seasons 1 and 2. Or as Leda puts it, I don't see Ray this way. I don't think Ray ever would have left. So here is my "why Ray left" story.

The Love Song of Gabriel "Sylar" Gray
by hackthis
Heroes Mohinder/Sylar R

So hackthis has done the impossible in my eyes - she has made me sympathize with Sylar AND has given him a multiple personality disorder (which, for the record, I don't think that he has) and she made me like it! I protest. *g* I only read this pairing when I trust the author and/or the reccer, and I am in the mood to be creeped out. Well, this pretty much fits that description to a tee!

Northern Cross by hyperfocused
Sports Night/Northern Exposure crossover Dan Rydell/Joel Fleischmann PG-13

Someone (I think it was phoebesmum?) once described Dan as "Sports Night's little black dress" because you can pair this man with just about ANYONE, and have a swell time doing it. Dan is crushing on Casey, who is too dumb to notice, and Joel is trying to drink to ignore the fact that he misses Alaska. Their's is a meeting of loneliness and connection in a large world, and I love it more than is probably healthy.

Beautiful Stranger by ferretwho
Firefly/Torchwood crossover Simon Tam/Jack Harkeness PG

I'll 'fess up in advance - I gave ferretwho the prompt for this lovely piece of 5 Times Jack and Simon met randomly in space. Well she took it and RAN! I just love the interconnection of these 5 pieces, the beautiful story that unfolds, and my own personal insertions of the beautiful threesome that Jack/Simon/River would make. Also, dancing!Jack FTW!

For the rain, it raineth every day by llassah
Due South/Battlestar crossover girl!Kowalski/Starbuck NC-17

For reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, Ray Kowalski has been turned into a girl. This is a prequel to that LOVELY bit of fiction and it makes me EVEN MORE HAPPY. Starbuck is slightly spooked by seeing a girl who looks just like Leoben and Ray is still adjusting to this rather large adjustment. Those of you who know me know that genderfucking, ESPECIALLY genderfucking femslash, is probably my biggest bullet proof kink, but even over and above the GUH factor of this story (which is pretty high for me!) I just LOVE the exploration of the characters. It is at times like this when I want to point anyone who says that using porn is a nice way to avoid character development to this piece, because it is ALL about character development, and SO subtle it will make you cry with its beauty.

Also, a shout out to my fellow Hugh/Callum lovers - Hugh only calls him Callum Rennie, not Callum Keith Rennie. AND CALLUM LENT HUGH HIS CAR!! ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
