(In which the signal is lost.)
Their sparks felt heavy, dead weights in their chassis’ that froze their systems in dread. The Vos command center was silent as a tomb. Every Seeker’s gaze was riveted on the large set of screens dedicated to tracking the star ship carrying their Winglords.
Silence, broken only by the hiss of static.
Sunstorm made a wounded sound. “Brother…”
Glitterblind’s claws crept up to cover her mouth as the buffer of shock began breaking down, giving way to anger, horror and a terrible aching despair.
The last record they had of the Nemesis and the Ark, the two star ships had been locked in battle. Then - a trans stellar drive signal, and now… there was nothing.
“We’ve lost contact with the beacons of both the Nemesis and the Ark.” Jetfire said slowly, wary of disturbing the fragile hush that had fallen over the Seekers gathered on the command deck. “No signs of explosions. They’re just - they’re gone.”
“What now, should we do?” Glitterblind edged closer to Battalion, vehemently wishing that she had taken the time to help her trinemate convince the Winglords to bring bodyguards along when she had the chance. It was too late now to change their minds. Far, far too late. “Gone they are. Go after them, we should?”
“We do have their last known position.” Jetfire said, looking relieved, grabbing at the first sign of hope that would keep them all from descending into panic.
“What we do not have is the deep space capabilities.” Barricade bit out, looking pained. “They were too far out for us to make it on our own power and still be in any condition to track the drive jump trail. All of our deep space craft and long range specialists are tied up in the energon pipeline.”
“Could we not request someone off the pipeline to go look for them?” Sunstorm asked quietly, pulling closer to Barricade as his optics flickered with apprehension.
“We have some maps of that vector.” Jetfire added. “Not many, and what we do have is sketchy. It’s the last sector Starscream explored and he only collected the bare minimum of data before he had to turn back, but we do have some intel.”
“We cannot afford to remove any mechs from the energon pipeline.” Barricade was obviously trying to be strong, but the quiver of his sensor panels gave away how wretched he felt. “Those we would require are in key positions and cannot be spared without disrupting the entire production. The continued function of the pipeline is critical to the survival of Vos and the Seeker nation. The Citadel needs the energy to remain aloft and the stasis pods in the crèche also need energy. We are barely making the quota as it is. It will be several vorns until we can risk pausing the pipeline, and by then the trail will be cold.”
“So what are our options?” Battalion asked, glaring at the blank screens as if they had personally offended him. “There has to be something we can do.”
“We can devote a sensor grid to monitor that vector for Cybertronian signals. We can continue with the plan as ordered.” Barricade’s voice was dull. There was very little action to actually take. Any other option other than waiting and hoping for the best would collapse the entire plot like a house of cards. They all knew that. None of the Seekers could conscience destroying everything they had worked for because of an impulse based on panic. They could not dishonour the sacrifices made to get them this far. If that meant losing the Winglords as well… control was being maintained by a slim margin. Any more pressure and they would break, rushing to find and retrieve their leaders without thought of the consequences.
“Be not afraid.” Sunstorm murmured, optics a pale, eerie autumn gold. “Be not afraid. The centre holds. Trust in the will of Primus, and in the strength of our tyrants.”
The assembled Seekers were silent in the wake of Sunstorm’s words, feeling for themselves the steady, unchanged strength of the wind bond.
“He’s right.” Jetfire said, smiling thankfully at his wingmate. “Unless something changes the situation here beyond the predicted parameters or the wind bond weakens, we should hold to the flight path and continue as planned.”
“We will endure.” Sunstorm stated firmly, brooking no argument.
“Right you are.” Glitterblind cycled air in a soft sigh of resignation. “A statement, I will have Twister write, for the populace to calm. A missive too, to Slipstream will I send, of this situation informing her.”
The rest of the Vos Citadel Commanders made noises of agreement and dispersed to return to work. The city did not pause just because they were suffering from a stressful emotional crisis after all. In the end, they would endure. Seekers were good at toughing it out.
‘Shut up and deal’ was practically a second religion by this point.
So they endured.

Nyan~ poor little Seekers. All lost and alone. *evil giggles*
So this bonus post if for
rosieknight who bred me a silver egg and gave it to me this afternoon. Like most of you, she asked for more Rings. So more Rings it is! XD
Speaking of more Rings, since I started thinking about what holes needed to be filled in for the narrative of Oppression, it's doubled in volume.
I scrubbed down my fish tanks tonight because Flamewar and Thrust died the other day. Hopefully the water change and treatment will keep any more of my fishies from expiring. I also only have five tetras left, so I shifted them over into the smaller tank. I'm considering getting some peacock cichlids for my large tank. We shall see.
And it seems to be the time for our pets to get sick. Torus, our Arabian cross palamino has mud fever. It's a bit like athlete's foot for horses. Poor Torus has these huge scabby patches on the heels of his hind feet. And his ankles are swollen to twice the size they should be. The poor baby's hurting.
We're showing the house again tomorrow afternoon. It's the same people who were here last Thursday, but they want to see the house again. This is a good thing. Hopefully they'll decide to put in an offer.
I'm considering buying the loose set of Botcon figures. I do know that I'm going to have to order the con T-shirts for my sister and myself. The glow-in-the-dark bit is what sold me, really. XD But still... more toys. Should I or shouldn't I? It's a difficult choice. I like the idea of having a set to play with and a set to keep pretty though. And hey, is it just me or does Streetstar look like the lovechild of Starscream and Prowl?
Here there be dragons! Yay! I've got a silver! Now all that's left is to get a Bright Breasted Wyvern and for my Blacks to fragging well breed me an alt already!
