Hasn't it been awhile?
I've been spending the last month on a goddamned fic marathon!!! So this, my dahlings, is a rec post. ::squeals::
Things I have read this past month:
Ron/Hermione (yes
vaguelyalive this is for you :D)
After the End: This is fanfic classic!! By Arabella and Zsenya of
Sugar Quill...Everything about it is wonderful. Featuring DragonRider!Harry, Barkeep+lawyer!Ron, Thinker!Hermione and Empath!Ginny and Evil Draco. I loved everything about this story, especially Ron (but then, when do i NOT love Ron :P)The characterization is splendid! The plot is pretty good too, with Dragons and Dementors and general doom. The Harry and Ginny dimension is also wonderfully explored, especially since Ginny is an empath and finds it difficult to be around Harry too much. Just a small warning: It has FORTY SIX chapters, so tread carefully on that one.
Points of No Return by Night Zephyr: Talking about Empathetic Magic, this one has Ron cast as the Empath. I had actually read this a long time back but had completely forgotten both name and author and had spent eons of time trawling through SQ looking for it so I was delighted when I stumbled upon it. Ron is just...so Ron in this story and once again you have the Ron-Hermione dimension and there is an original character as well, Valeria, who as original characters go, is effing perfect. There's also a shady weather orb and a Voldemort after Harry's will so all in all, a thrilling, well-rounded story. A couple of quibbles though: Ron just has too much power. I really like Ron (Gee, didn't you know?) but I prefer Ron-centric stories where Ron still takes a back-seat to Harry, if you know what I mean. When Ron has too much power, well, it just doesn't seem right to me. ::sigh::
Eternal Sunshine of the Scourgified Mind by Solstice Muse: I stumbled upon this fic by mistake but it was such a wonderful mistake that I didn't mind. The trio lose all their magical memories, Harry ends up barkeeping while camping at YMCA, Hermione moves somewhere else asnd starts studying Latin while volunteering at Samaritans and Ron, well, Ron ends up in a loony bin. Solstice Muse crafts a masterful tale involving Voldemort, psychologists with whistling teeth and a Ron who doesn't believe in his own worth. Another original character here, Jo, who is just beautiful: whimsy, quixotic and suicidal. God this fic is beautiful. Post HBP
What You're Missing, also by Solstice Muse. A very, very long one-shot about well, Ron. He has no money, has Death Eaters after him and has to complete Christmas Shopping in the bargain. Muse's characterization of Ron is spot-on, proud yet vulnerable and so, so strong. Why can't I know a guy like that in RL? Post Hogwarts
Lost in Parasomnia again by Solstice Muse. Muse keeps me glued to her author profile with her prolific writing. This fic turns a little dark, with somebody or many bodies controlling Ron's sleeping patterns. And as he succumbs to somnambulism, he bring back information which the trio needs to destroy Voldemort. Who are these people? And why Ron? WIP. Post HBP
Dragon Heart by Buck NC. No self-respecting person would rec this fic except for the fact that it's soooo WEIRD!!! Ron catches Hermione making out with Draco and stomps of to the Dragon Preserve in Romania. He sends weekly letters to Ginny which she reads out in the Great Hall! There's anti-dragon business, photographs of Ron's pants on fire and Hermione being not a little stupid. Bad grammar, blue phoenixes and Harry and Ginny. 41 Chapters and counting. You've been warned.
Ron/Harry (OOOOTTTPPP #1)
Time Storm by Shedoc: I don't know why but I really, really liked this one. Harry reverts back to four years old and Ron takes care of him. It's heart-warming and cute and Harry is just so gritty and strong, even when he's four that it pains you to read it. It's a little like
A Nick in Time by Tira Nog, but I haven't read that in a while and I've forgotten the story so I don't know where the similarities begin and end. Read Time Storm anyways. It's not bad.
A Lacking of Foresight by
keelywolfe: I've been following this story ever since Keely started it, I think it was four-five years back? And imagine my surprise when I went back to keely's website a few days back to see that It.Was.Updated! After so bloody long! And then she completed it! I loved it. This was, I think, the first story with Ron as a Seer and God does she make it so plausible! Ron is raw and dynamic and just plain gorgeous while Harry is just perfect and Snape is vindictive and malicious but with that streak of something in him which makes him not so evil. I can't wait for more stuff from Keely now.
Voldemort's Weakness by The Legend Keeper: Harry/Ron, Post OoTP. Ron helps Harry fight his demons. Literally.
Binding Secrets by
mad_martha: Anything by Mad Martha is worth a read, really. She has a knack of making her characters as real as you and me and it's an ability I completely envy. Binding Secrets is a little away from what she usually writes. Ron is a professional dominant, or as Harry bluntly puts it: a prostitute. Only Harry is not really complaining. Very nice, not too much smut and just Harry and Ron.
Credulous Hearts by Sandy: Anyone who reads Harry/Ron has read this one and yet, I can't keep from reccing this. The slow pace, the lethargic narrative, they just contribute to Ron's mood through out the story. I loved it and now, well, I want more. I'm greedy like that.
Following the Wrong God Home by
scoradh: Well, I dunno quite what to say about this fic. It's Ron and Hermione but Hermione is a complete control freak which while not very OOC it's still not her. I have to admit, I'm not the world's biggest Hermione fan and I find that girl who plays her in the movies more than a little bit annoying but even she is better than the Hermione in this fic. But Ron is exactly who I picture him to be and Harry is a play-boy millionare and everything else is perfect if you can ignore Hermione.
Ron/Draco (OOOOTTTTPPP #2)
skoosiepants writes some of the most delightful Ron/Draco fics ever! Read
dirtytrousers an ongoing AU about the Hogwarts gang after Hogwarts, or
The Entirely Worng Way which features Pirate!Draco and Blaise and The Honourable Hermione Granger and Drunk Harry Potter. And there is
Don't Let's Start which is just DA BOMB! And how can I forget
Everybody Here Would Know which has Ron stranded on a tropical island with Draco Malfoy and a surprisingly hot Ernie Macmillan. Hmmm...
Talking about Ron/Draco, it doesn't GET any better than the
Beg Me For It series by
icarusancalion. While Non-con warnings apply for the first part, the series is on the whole racuous fun, with cross-dressing, drugs and alcohol and a very uptight Percy trying his level best to keep some order. I especially loved the last installment SNAFU but I'm getting ahead of myself. So go on. Read it!
Ron/Snape (for some weird kinks :D)
Aftermath by Josan is a Ron/Snape masterpiece. The characters are so human it actually hurts and Snape is exactly himself and yet, is not. And Ron is exaclt what you need him to be, proud but not unbending. There's this especially touching scene between Arthur and Snape which just killed me. Beautiful.
A Quickening of the Heart by brennsgurl: This is wonderful Ron/Snape, with Seer Ron again (my favorite kind) and a rather frightened Snape. Part three in a series of, well, three, the author shows a frighteningly capable Ron and a Snape who is afraid to love. WIP and I'm dying for the next few parts.
Traditions by The Treacle Tart: The Treacle Tart is one of my favorite authors only because she can make a story so effing alive! Traditions is one of my favorite Ron/Snape stories. It takes them a long time to realize that they are more than just friends but they do, finally. Also read
The Tao of Diogenes, for Healer Ron, Sarcastic Snape and a yellow duck named Diogenes.
Three Forms by Sam Vimes: Snape does not flow. Ron points the way.
Ron gen:
A Model by Rugi: While not so much about Ron but about oneiromancy, a rather new concept to me, I suppose. I'll let the author explain. Well, somebody is making a model of Ron, just as the oneiromancer employed by Dumbledore is attempting one of Pettigrew. Well written, featuring an intelligent Ron and a love affair between Remus Lupin and the oneiromancer. As original characters go, again, this one's pretty good. Great characterization and some wonderful moments between her and Lupin.
Midnight by the Weasley Watch by excessivelyperky. EVERYONE should have read this! Ron's been hiding stuff behind those vacant blue eyes as Snape finds out to his surprise in a chess tournament. Told from Ron's POV mostly, this story revolves basically around chess and includes an Arab with a genie, Draco possesed by Quirrel and an incredibly tense chess game between Ron and Lucius Malfoy, followed by another face-off between Snape and Malfoy. It takes your breath away, literally!
Fit by
penknife for those who love Ron. How does it feel to be the younger brother to twins?
Ron's First Wand by missybewitched. What the title says. How did Ron get his first wand? The formatting is a little painful but the fic is nice enough to make up for it.
The Start by Mika-chan: How does Ron get started with chess. With the help from Bill of course.
Wesan Contendere by HF. A touching conversation between Ron and Arthur before Ron's wedding. Never Give Up, says Arthur.
K. I think that's going to be it for now, cause my fingers are dying out on me. Whew. I'm gonna take a sabbatical from fic now.
Yeah. Like THAT's ever gonna happen.
