I have a new second job, its totally a blast. Kevin's Sister owns a doggy day care, called 4-legged Friends. I am working there part time, Mondays and Fridays 7 am - 3 pm. My duties are to greet each dog's parents in the morning until 10 am while cleaning as needed, and then I go in back with the dogs to supervise while they play all day, till I leave at 3 pm.
I've worked with as many as 20 dogs, but Monday and Friday are their slowest days; on Thursdays, they can have as many as 40 dogs. The biggest dog I've worked with thus far is a great dane. She's extremely affectionate, and quite pushy sometimes, literally.
There are a lot of labs. There are two huskies I've worked with, a norweigian buhund who yaps and can jump over the time out fences with ease, but gets me every time with how beautiful she really is. The huskies talk, a lot. They're very sweet and friendly, and love to get the whole group howling.
One of the neatest looking dogs is a rhodesian ridgeback. Tall, taller than a lab. Short, reddish brown fur, that points up in small ridge along their back. She's also pushy and affectionate, and one of my favorites.
Another favorite I have are the german shorthaired pointers. They are gorgeous, loyal and affectionate. They also do the famous "pointing" where they lean forward with a paw raised, nose pushed forward, tail straight out.
Mostly, they run around barking, chasing balls, chasing each other, and wrestling. Occasionally, they get into snits with each other, which is when we step in with leads to bring them to time out, if necessary, or a shake can, water bottle, and whistle, for various ways to get their attention when they start to get out of control. Mostly, we just stop them from humping, barking incessantly, and playing too rough. The dogs lay down when they want to nap, drink when they want to drink, and usually remember to go outside to go to the bathroom. When they don't, I'm right behind with a mop and poop bag.
Its the funnest job I've ever had, and every dog is so different and unique. They're like children, in a lot of ways. My job rocks.
