Winter term is almost half over. Excitement! That means next week is midterms! Already?! It feels like the term just started. But OSU is odd in that its terms are only 10 weeks long..... which makes things very interesting when it comes to midterms and such. Some classes have multiple "midterms" which can make those classes a challenge.
Fortunately for me it seems I only really have to worry about one midterm for each of my four classes. The classes I'm taking this term are
Japanese 112 (which was canceled today due to the weather and due to the Professor's Health)
Anthropology 210 Comparative Cultures (which is actually a class on the music of resistance don't ask me how that comes into play other than the resistance music we are learning about is from Brazil and Jamaica .. woo)
Shakespeare (a survey class weee) We are speeding through Julius Caesar, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Hamlet, and Measure for Measure in 10 weeks!!?!?!?!?! Not nearly enough time in my opinion for these plays.. PLUS the teacher is making us memorize LONG passages from most of the plays as part of our homework. >.< That is bad news because poor Grace has the memory of a GOLDFISH! *sighs*
And my favorite class of Winter term *drum roll*
TCE 216! Whats that? That is my teaching class. The official title is "The Foundations of Education in a Democracy" sounds boring but really it isn't. I have this awesome professor (from Boston so he has that cool accent). The Professor really loves what he is doing. He has passion for his job, and is interested in his subject. Each class is jam-packed full of information and excitement and sometimes even comedy. Coming up for this class I need to visit a local school and write a short paper on the visit. This is very exciting because it will be my first in class visit! I'll get a peak at what I want to do for the rest of my life.
I think I am doing well with all of my classes. I do have a few rough spots when it comes to the Anthropology class because it is a video class, and it turns out that I don't like video classes. Go figure. Plus it is a low lvl class so it is full of freshmen who don't care or want to be there. I get bored to the point of coma in this class because the video professor is BORING and while if he were in person he might be mildly interesting somehow transferring his class to the video media he becomes so much less interesting. The TA is the person who runs the class and he almost has to pull the students by their nose hairs to get them to discuss the material seriously. I don't blame the students for this... they are a mob and mobs aren't smart, but they are smart enough to pick up on a professor or TA who doesn't want to be there or give a shit about the material and just wants to get through the class. Seriously he even said he doesn't care to the class... ?!?! he even gave us the midterm questions in advance?! So as long as I don't dink around there is no excuse why I shouldn't get at least a B in this class. I am going to complain to the DEAN of Anthropology after the term is over. I have nothing against the TA, but seriously Anthropology is a difficult subject, and teaching through a video nay good.
Japanese is a little patchy because I'm having issues mastering particles and where they should go. I keep getting ga and wa and o mixed up. Though I am starting to get the hang of it. Maybe if I tried to teach Dakun it would clear up a bit for me. They say if you teach others the information sticks better... look out Dakun there are a few Japanese lessons coming your way... that is if you are willing. (Which being the loving supportive boyfriend that he is I'm sure he won't mind helping me, and besides he wants to learn Japanese anyways. ^ ^)
Shakespeare is pretty good. The class I mean. The writer is awesome. I really enjoy reading Shakespeare and studying it. This professor is a little ecentric though. I feel his whole memorization requirement is a waste of my valuable time. His main reason for it is so we can show our parents that we are actually learning something in College. Blech. He feels that idealists will ruin the world, and feels that that is shown through Shakespeare. He is also very distracting in that he using the teaching podium to stretch his legs... he puts them up there and then leans in! Didn't he ever go to a Speech or teaching class?! Oy.
Work isn't going so well. I ended up working for a Burger Joint on campus, whose name I shall not release due to me probably badmouthing them alot and I don't want to get sued.
Alright so I don't have a huge problem with Burger Joint, its just I don't like that they waste so much food and throw away so much waste. Also I have a big issue with one of the "Shift Leads" Sally (Not her real name). She has slightly more power in the Burger Joint than I do and she likes to throw it around. I've worked there for four months now. Wow! She keeps telling me to do things different than the other shift leads want me to do them and also from what the manager tells me to do, and she also treats me like I'm four. "Wash your hands often!" (NO SHIT I'm working with food you dumb $#@!!!) and "Your hair can't touch your collar or go below it." (Well listen to yourself you stupid prick your hair is hanging past your collar) The hours aren't bad, though the work is slow and boring as hell. At least I have a job. (Though honestly during school I'd prefer not to work at all. Just don't have enough from Financial aide to do it)
Dakun and I finally have our own place. It is very wonderful. We only have to worry about us and no one else. I do miss Margret though. Last year's living situation seemed like a good idea, but Margret, Eli, Dakun, and I just didn't mix well. I hope that Margret will still be my friend. I guess what they say is true about living with friends and family as roommates is true. You would think I would have learned that lesson with Ron. *sigh* Also there were some financial things going on that really made it a stressful environment. Even now we are still sorting those out. For some reason the landlords are trying to charge us over our deposits and they kept all of our deposits. It is very frustrating. I did find the lease agreement to the place which we are going to go over with a fine toothed comb, and hope we can find some loop hole.
Dakun and I are doing really well. He is possibly going to get a promotion in his job. Yay! We finally have a couch! Yay! He is very supportive of me going to school. I do feel guilty that he brings in much much more money than I do, but he feels me going to school is an investment in our future, and considers that to be my job.
There a nice little update for me and you. I feel a bit better getting some of that out. It is important to do so every so often. Any-who now I need to do some homeworks. yay.....
With love and grace, and a growing brain (I hope),
