Galileo review +candies

Happy New Year, minna-san! Osoi na.. ore. I'll start the year with a review of the first (and hopefully of many more to come) drama I managed to finish watching this year. Galileo desu~!

Galileo is about an enthusiastic rookie detective (Shibasaki Kou) who seeks the help of a genius, but somewhat eccentric, physicist known as Galileo (Fukuyama Masaharu) to solve some tough cases that border on the paranormal. Galileo couldn't help himself getting involved each time just to prove that the seemingly impossible is in fact possible. All with the help of physics and by scribbling gibberish formulas on whatever surface he can write on everytime a brilliant idea hits him.

Compared to many jdramas released recently, I think Galileo moves at a somewhat slower pace. In several episodes (especially the earlier ones) I found myself constantly checking to see how much of the episode was still left (it's like annoyingly asking "are we there yet?" when you're in a car to somewhere far -_-"). It was surprising that each episode was just around about 45 minutes.. Some episodes did feel longer than that. Not a good thing.

THE strongest point of the whole drama, which I think also somehow manages to save it from being a total bore into something worth watching, is the strength of the two main actors, Fukuyama Masaharu and Shibasaki Kou, as well as that of the many side characters who assist them and different guest actors who pop up in each ep.

Fuku and Shibakou's banters are highly enjoyable and XoMG funny! Fuku's so very serious, cold, LOGICAL all the time, talented in EVERYTHING and he hates children. lol. Meanwhile Shibasaki's acting shines again as she's totally natural as her character. If you really take notice, the way she says some things and how she makes facial expression are really unique (I don't know how to explain this.. blahhh! :/). But opposites attract and they are somehow drawn to each other and find one another intriguing the more they spend time with each other. Actually the relationships and interactions between all the characters, or the human factor, are believable and done very well throughout. Nothing is ever black and white and you'll laugh and cry along with them (nothing overly funny or sad though^^).

As for the cameos, eye candies aplenty for the guys. Yay! Beauties old and new make an appearance in almost every episode, like Kyoko Fukada, Ryoko Hirosue, Maki Horikita, Shaku Yumiko *nosebleed*.. you get the idea.. which should make us guys happy enough for the duration of the series. But for the gals, sorry.. Not much in terms of bishieness XD. You'd have to make do with Fuku-chan and maybe Kitamura Kazuki who makes an appearance once in a while (yeah, they're both old, I know.. tough).

Pros: Fuku x Shibakou banters ftw!, yummy cameos, interesting (sometimes) & complex (urm.. informative?) mysteries to be solved, "jitsu ni omoshiroi" or "sappari wakaranai" usually followed by "HAH HA HA HA HA" <---Professor Galileo's favorite lines XD

Cons: A bit slooow, talk talk talk, Cute girls:guys ratio of 10:1 (not that I mind.. should I put this in the Pros section? Heh), ending a bit shite (a sequel is highly likely)..

Rating: 7/10.

Conclusion: You'll probably like it, but will have the urge skip over some of the more "technical" parts to just see how the characters progress with each other.

Some Galileo eye-candy.. just because..
