Music Monday: The Song That Pisses Me Off
My Little Secret by Cavo. The first time I heard it, it sucked me in. It has a beautiful sound, and the emotion Casey Walker infuses into the lyrics lures you into sympathizing with him... until you really listen to the lyrics.
Click to viewThe guy's "little secret" is that he's having an affair! He goes home to his wife/girlfriend (it doesn't really matter which because they're living together), and he's thinking about the other woman, hoping the wife/girlfriend doesn't pick up on any evidence he's forgotten to hide.
And just like that, I'm infuriated. This guy sings as if he wants people to feel sorry for him. WTF? No. Just, no. You're an ass, dude. You're wrong on every level and I hate that I like the sound of this song. I almost feel like this song glorifies infedelity because the emotional focus is on him, not the woman he's betraying.
I keep trying to reinterpret the lyrics to make this song mean something different, but it's so clearly about an affair I can't come up with anything else remotely plausible.
Really, this just sickens me.
