Please think about this...

I called social services on someone today. And I shall tell you why and what happened as I think this happens quite a bit, and it is totally unnecessary.

I was coming home from work and stopped to get something. I came back to my car and beside me is small car with a toddler sleeping in her car seat. No adult. I looked again, looked around. Got in my car and sat wondering what I should do....waited 5 minutes and then decided I couldnt let this go. I called social services for evenings and let them know what was going on. It took a little while to get everything out and car plates and make etc. While I am walking around the car on my phone providing this info to a social worker on call.

I am then waiting to talk with someone else about it when the mom comes out of the store and goes to get in the car. I say to her, "I am on the phone with social services. You cannot leave your child in the car unattended, no matter what." she looked pissed and said she was in the store and could see her the whole time.

Since I had been wandering around her car, and she didnt come out to say stay the fuck away from my kid and my car...I am thinking that she was distracted for awhile. I told her "I am a social worker and I am telling you it only takes a few seconds for someone to steal your car or take your kid. You would *never* forgive yourself if that happened." She drove away, seemingly annoyed that I had butted in. I let the SW on the phone know I had spoken with her, but I am thinking they may be sending someone out to her house as well.

Can I just say this: NEVER leave your kid in the car when you are not there. For so many reasons but mostly because there are very bad people out there and they are VERY good at what they do. You do not want to chance that in the slightest --- I have seen so much, and believe me it is not worth it. If your kid is sleeping, you wake them up (yes, I know that totally sucks) or you keep driving.

It takes seconds. And then you will never be the same again. I am not being overly dramatic here. Trust me on this.
