Got out of town today with MoFitz. I think the two of us desperately needed to escape for a while to forget about humanity. Something about being in a town where you KNOW people...your empathy confounds the circumstances. Today was a day where the Passive Aggressive Mambo had to hit the ground running, so to speak. It is always one straw that makes the camel's back break.

Tell me why it is that good people are being beaten to death with the wickedness of others? Why is it the good people who stand down to be taken advantage of? Why can't there be a 911 call for emotional abuse?

It is easy for people to forget that everyone has a story that would break your heart. Everyone. Your bitchy English professor, the man downtown who makes great egg salad sandwiches. It is this attitude, I think, that causes people to treat others badly. Being so down trodden by what we think is the most tragic of tragic tales that we are above permitting ourselves to feel for others as well. Are we afraid of feeling pain that isn't our own? Or is it just that we don't care unless it's happening to us? I cannot decide which. It's either a complete lack of humanity, or a fear of feeling humanity.

Some pitiful full-moon effect is holding my good heart firmly at the wrist.
