Rooms for rent.

Although I love craigslist, I just spend my entire Sunday showing BATSHIT CRAZY PEOPLE my rooms for rent.  How these people managed to trick me via email into thinking they were not nutso is an amazing feat.

I hate looking for new roommates.  A very sad and sudden incident has resulted in some life changes in the past few weeks, and so we have rooms ( Read more... )

Everyone's trying to make life in San Diego work, especially financially. Don't hate just because it isn't appealing to you, okay? Some people out there would rather take a garage space and make it their own than live in an unappealing neighbourhood far far from the water ( ... )

Ironic.

Re-read your post and "don't judge", is the point I think she was trying to make.

My original post was intended to be humourous.

I allowed all of these people to come to my home, gave each of them personal time to look at the house, to tell me their stories, etc. I'm really sincere when I say that I'm trying really REALLY hard to be openminded about people.

But many of them flat out lied. One girl mentioned at the end that she has an 11 month old child, kind of a "oh, and by the way..." sort of deal. Another guy was significantly and uncomfortably much older than he said. People have just been generally...not forthcoming.

Anyway, this was supposed to be a post amongst LJ friends. If I have appeared to be hatey, it was not my intention.

well I totally feel for you. I have rented rooms for years, and I totally understand the whole, people not disclosing the truth thing. For me it is always the renter that lies. They make their place and manorisms seem livable and agreeable when they were far from it. I just said to hell with roommates and my boyfriend and I got a little studio apt. And I don't feel your post was judgemental in the least. It was obvious humor. Plus spelling out exactly what you want out of a roommate (ex.the bottom of your post) is the best way to make sure you don't waste any more of your time on people who don't fit. I know it sometimes makes people seem rude or prejudiced but its your space and you have to live with these people for x amount of time. If I was in your situation I would do the same thing. If you don't do it, you can end up with a god awful roommie like I had over and over again.

I tried to live in a garage for a while. I figured that not only the cost difference would be beneficial, but I liked the idea of more space and a slightly more industrial feel would be entertaining. I never managed to work out a situation where I could. I fully support garage living, though.

I guess I also just don't like sharing bathrooms. GOOD LUCK!
