I can't believe we're re-debating shit I thought we had settled over 20 YEARS ago. Personhood amendment would actually give more paternity rights to rapists than they would to the women raped, who would have literally no legal recourse. This also creates circumstances for "Legal" rape. And also could, in theory, allow a sociopathic criminal to go on a rape spree, impregnate his victims, as contraception would also be suppressed in a right wing fantasy society, successfully sue for paternal rights and accumulate a "family". INSANE.
That's a good assessment of the text book market. "Imperfect competition," indeed. Even if students go to State or Community colleges instead of Pvt 4-year schools - now out of reach of the middle and working classes, they save nothing on textbook costs. Now that the boy in in the system, we can get the booklists further in advance and try a wider spectrum of options with more than 48 hours notice.
I can certainly see the motivation for Apple to want to disrupt the existing system with iBooks and eTextbooks. And the big publishers DO seem to be on board, no help from the US DOJ, who totally missed that Amazon currently enjoys an eBook monopoly. WRONG TARGET, you idiots.
