Question 13: What’s your favorite culture to write, fictional or not?
I like to write as realistic as I can, therefore, mostly American culture. It fits the canon.
As for original fic - the same. Write what you know. It works.
Question 14: How do you map out locations, if needed? Do you have any to show us?
It depends if the location is relevent for the story.
For AtGS, was looking for a desert, and stumbled onto the moving rocks, so I googled, and even managed to find some driving tips.
I have a plot bunny I'll probably never end up writing, but I did some research on it. I needed the location to be a small town - so I googled that (based on population) and I managed to find a few I liked. One was really close to Atlantic City, and I figured - teen!Dean + Atlantic City = win, so I went with that. Kept the town mostly the same with a touch of AU.
I rarely use real towns or cities, but when I do, google is my friend.
If it's not relevant to the story and I want to describe it, I describe everyday life. I usually avoid details that don't advance the story, but if I do need to describe it, I have to at least see it clearly in my mind.
