Pairing: Blair Waldorf/Dan Humphrey

Summary: He's getting there. Blair pulls him along.
Notes: usual_notions prompt: Something along the lines of THIS song.
He's not exactly sure why he keeps waiting. It's been like this since the beginning. (Maybe, sort of, no.) Or perhaps it's just different with Blair altogether because it's Blair. Whatever defaults he's had before, she throws him off effortlessly.
But then there's moments like these, as he's staring down at her as she sleeps on his shoulder (like so many times before, it's their secret comfort zone), Dan thinks that it's possible he may have the same effect on her. She's beautiful like that-vulnerable, no more entitlement, real. And he knows why they're both here-she presses forward to get what she wants.
Dan's still hesitant, though.
Stirring in her sleep, Blair awakens and mumbles something into his shirt about needing a blanket. Their eyes meet and something unspoken drifts between them, obvious and profound. Dan blinks and it's gone. He's about to get up to fetch a cover but she holds him against her form and he stills.
"C'mon, Humphrey. It won't kill you," still groggy from slumber, Blair nuzzles her face into his shoulder and murmurs, "I love you too."
It's backwards and kind of cheesy (he's a writer, so he doesn't mind much about the latter) but he replies with an I love you into her hair, holding her just a little closer.
(He’s a work in progress, but at least he’s trying.)

Soooo, this came out cliche. I understand if you are rolling your eyes about now. If you didn't like it, go ahead and request another.
Also: I totally downloaded that song. Beautiful.
