Haven't updated in an age.
Om Wednesday met Mr Wol and Marie for lunch in college and let DD play on the sculptures and pick dandelion heads in one of the UCC outdoor spaces. Then she and I walked up to her playschool which was a nice change. Then it was time for my return to the foot doctor and while it wasn't as much of a bleeding ordeal as last time it still lacked a lot in the fun department. I had a long wait. Lovely 'Ponstan' is no longer on the market so I had a prescription for 'Zydol' instead. It is nowhere near as much fun. The pain was pretty much undeadened but my brain was very deadened but no nice floaty stoned feeling to go with it: more like narcolepsy. In the course of the afternoon I was able to fall asleep in all sorts of situations: typing, sitting, eating, drying DD after her wash, and - eventually - being in bed.
Thursday was better. Foot not too sore. Head gradually unfugging. Sunshine in the sky and all and Mr Wol with the day off. We headed out to Fota for an outing. Picnic and playground with incidental wildlife as fdar as DD is concerned. The park trailer train is running again now it is summer so DD was double plus delighted.
Friday was unimpressive with me feeling cruddy with a sore stomach and a sore throat. The latter seems to have eased but the former is still very much with me today. Also got to watch Dr Who - Horsey!!! It was very silly and deeply Golden Age SF in the twist at the end but fun ... and ... horsey!!! Watched DR Who Confidentail afterwards and got to see
nhw's 'where the heck is Billie Piper?!' phenomenon in action. Talk about sidelined!
Today was a bit better. Got to have a nice Skype chat with
purpletigron early on. DD had fun playing at Indian Weddings - thankyou Balamory! Then we sortied out to town to go to the English market for sushi supplies. No rice means no sushi means badness! As well as success on that front we also came across a craft fair in the Unitarian Church next door.
mylescorcoran has blogged about the face painting fun that was had - and very charming DD still looks actually ... hope it will come off - so it is up to me to talk about the food. We bought some posh veggie sandwiches. I had potato tortilla on roasted pepper on bread and was gorgeoused out! Mr Wol had slightly less success with a date and goats cheese concoction which he felt was over sweet. I thought it was delicious but I only had one bite. What struck me most was the sheer pleasantness of everyone there. All the stall holders seemed to know eachother and they had brought their kids and one dog. Everyone seemed to know everyone else - which was probably a good thing as the only people I can imagine who would wear those ghastly knitted hats were all in the fair. A little girl who couldn't get her face painted because she had "excebexcema!" made friends with DD and showed her how to crunch her free lolly and generally acted as hostess. I was left with a feeling of respect for those hippie people and their friendliness and a respect for the way they could sit at stalls for hours on end not selling anything - for truly everything in the non food line was obviously made with care and love and was truly, truly 'orrible to look at.
