Title: The Valentine's Party
Author: warriorhope
Rating: G
Character(s)/Pairing(s): Sam/Kurt friendship; grade school crushing if you squint. Also, slight background Quick
Author Notes: The mini mes melted my brain with cute, and I got plot bunnies for Elementry!School AU, where everyone is in elementry school choir. And Sue's a gym teacher. Also, a world without dead parents or handcapping accidents, though bullies still exist. Also, I think we can all agree that Mrs. Hummel was probably fierce when she was alive.
Warning: occness from everyone (I can't glee characters right at all), sad!Kurt (especially bad since I always bitch about this), possible grammer/missed words mistakes, intentinal spelling mistakes, or and AU!spinoff babies, if that bothers you. Oh and out of seasoness
Disclaimer: I don't own Glee or its characters. If I did I'd be living on a tropical island by now.
Summary: Sam wasn't giving his Caption America card to anyone.

“Okay, please clean up everyone,” Ms. Pillsbury said to the second grade class. “Remember Noah, you're still in the corner until the end of playtime. I'm going to see if we can do anything about Quinn's hair.”

As their home room teacher walked away with a glaring blond haired little girl whose ponytail end was dripping with red paint, Sam Evens looked down and grinned at his valentine's bag. It had the avengers fighting the giant mutant heart of doom. Much cooler than all the sparkled and pink bags everyone had. Though he was surprised that the person who usually went all out for these assignments, was staring down at a paper bag with nothing on it.

Sam liked Kurt. When he had first transferred here, a lot of people called him stupid because he always messed up during spelling drills. Then one day Kurt had offered to tutor him and he slowly got better. Now he only missed every second word. So it made him feel weird to see Kurt looking so listless, during art class of all times. He always started working right away, and came out with awesome looking stuff. Why hadn't he attempted to do something with the paper bag?

“Sam, come build a space tower!”

“Coming.” Sam shook his head. Kurt was fine. He was already in the music corner with Tina and Mercedes. He'd probably already made the most awesome bag at home, and was going to bring it in on Valentine's day. He ran off to play with the legos with Finn and Artie.

------

Choir practice was cut short that day. Halfway through Ms. Sylvester came in to yell at Mr. Schuester
for 'making elementary students sing love songs!' and called him a pervert (whatever that was). He began to argue with her that they weren't love songs, and 'how dare you take opportunities for children to shine!'. After about ten minutes everyone stopped paying attention, and finished their lunch. Everyone was talking about the valentine's party after the concert tomorrow. Even the boys who claimed that valentine's day was 'stupid and girly', were excited by the prospect of cookies and no math period. Sam was even more excited. He couldn't wait to give out his superhero valentines, with holograms. He was keeping the Caption America one to himself though. It was the only one in the pack, due to some printing error their were fifteen wolverine cards instead of eight. No one would call him selfish for that right?

However, after a few minutes Sam noticed that once again, Kurt wasn't taking part in the conversation.

“Aren't you excited about the party?” He asked.

Kurt shrugged. “Nothing, to get excited about. There's a party with tacky decorations every month. We should go back to class, they're never going to stop.”

He gathered up his Wizard of Oz lunch box and marched out of the room. Everyone started to trail out of the room as the bell rang, but Sam managed to catch Mercedes and Tina as they left the room.

“Does he have a problem with valentine's day? He loves holidays usually doesn't he?”

Mercedes and Tina kinda of looked at each other, trying to think of what to tell him.

“Look, none of us really got any cards, except from other choir people.” Mercedes finally said. “It never really matter, because we got cards from each other-which were way cooler by the way-but in kindergarten and last year, people didn't just not give him cards, they put stuff in Kurt's card bag.”

“What kind of stuff? Like candy?” Why would that bother Kurt?

Tina shook her head and leaned in, and whispered what people had put in it.

“Ew.” Sam said. “Who was it?”

“No one ever saw them. But after last year, Kurt decided not to put out a bag.”

Sam curled his hands into fists. If he was a superhero he could just fight all the bullies, and make Kurt happy about celebrating again. (and also get them to stop calling him stupid). But what could he do all on his own? Wait...maybe that was it.

After, the party, Kurt sighed and counted the valentine's his friends had given him. He'd gotten one from each person in choir (that was new). Admittedly, this year had been more fun, since he didn't have to worry about a bag, and he had won the dance competition with Brittany. Sam had been staring at him the whole time obviously trying to see if he was having a good time, which was a little weird, but strangely uplifting. So had Mercedes and the rest of the choir come to think of it. The decorations were still tacky, but not totally bad, and cookies were delicious.

However, he could still remembered what it had felt like last year opening the bag and seeing that. This year he had just left the bag on his desk. He threw it out, when he felt the bottom and could tell something besides cards was in it. He supposed he could have told his parents (his dad would have yelled at the principal, while his mother would smile and threaten lawsuits if things weren't done), but the people who did it would just have called him a crybaby and would find worst more secret ways to torment him.

He sighed shaking the glitter from Rachel's huge homemade star card off his hand. Well, it was over for another year at least. He felt around the top of his chubby for his new hat, and touched a piece of paper. He took it down and saw that it was a card. Hologram with some red, blue and white superhero holding a shield on it. He turned it over and read the inscription.

If u fid out who bib it, tele me anb wel fiht tem togeher.-foam yor sekret abmier

Kurt manged to translate what it meant, with a little effort and smiled. This year really hadn't been so bad.
