Woke up this morning around 7.
seems to be my new wake up time.
ate a fresh croissant with some tea.
Set off about 10.
Walked a few blocks to Arts et Metiers.
Got onto a metro and traveled to Saint Lazre.
This is the shopping district called Haussmann Boulevard.
Went into this big malls, similar to David Jones.
It had everything!!!
Mainly super expensive ultra brand names.
On average everything was about 1000 euros or more.
It kinda just made me angry.
why would someone pay 5000 euros for an ordinary looking jacket?!!?
It was in this beautiful old French building
which contrast to what it is now.
There were floors for fancy shoes and bags.
made me think of izzy, she would have died!
Found our way to the top floor which had a breath taking view of paris.
There was also a food court.
Think about the tacky food courts in Australia....
this was incredible and the complete opposite.
Each stall had fancy chefs serving out fresh wonderful looking food.
Mum and i just had a coffee and a cake each.
After leaving the mall we did a little bit of shopping along the streets.
much more reasonable prices.
I kinda was still looking for SES or valleygirl shops...
but i guess thats asking a bit too much for paris.
The streets have all this weird stuff happening.
I saw this man playing some weird instrument.
Pigeonswere flocking to him.
He had a big green umbrella
and a little baby bed with a cat in bed
far out sooooo strange!!
We then accidently stumbled onto this tacky (times a thousand) restaurant.
it was called American Dreams.
which kinda explains itself really.
it was decorated out the front with bright lights and statues of Elvis.
we stuck our heads in the door to see how bad it really was.
Sure enough the man in charge coaxed us in.
I dont know if it was cos we felt obligated to stay
or that we just couldn't believe how bad this place really was.
but we sat at a table.
the menu was horrible.
as was the fluresent red lights flickering at our table.
We ordered some nachos and a couple beers.
Tasted pretty disgusting and we ate as fast as we could so we could leave.
Before we left however, we wanted to check out the toilets.
we were led to the lower floor which looked like a strip club/torture chamber.
it was the funniest/scariest ever!
Once outside we realised it was pouring with rain,
so we hurried along a street and ducked into the Opera house.
it was a beautiful old building.
the tour was 10 euros or so we decided not to go any further.
It was about 3pm by then so we headed to the Opera metro station to get home.
On the walk home we walked along this street full of clothing boutiques.
I actually bought a leather jacket.
Its suuuuppppeerrr awesome! =)
After a bit of a relax at home went for a walk to the modern art museum.
its only about a 2 min walk away from the apartment.
Its a giant weird building with pipes and tunnels.
I think in the 70s/80s it would have been a real showcase of modern architecture.
But now its just weird and creepy.
I really liked the atmosphere around this museum.
Alot more of a younger crowd.
And lots of arty looking people
Similar to the ANU art school crowd.
There are a few funky little shops around there too.
I think ill go back in a few days and buy some stuff.
Walked to the Seine River again.
The Notre Dame was cross the bridge but i didnt go over.
The gargoyles scared me.
they are on like every old building.
Ahhhhhh freaky!
Came back to the apartment
and had some home made spaghetti
and drank some tasty red wine.
Not sure what ill do tomorrow.
Might do a bit more touristy stuff.
Sent off some postcards today.
They will be hilarious!!
