I've been consciously trying to reduce my contribution to the landfill waste stream by recycling more. I've reduce my garbage to 1/2 bag from 2 bags and my recycling bin is always full. I've included more waste paper, paper and plastic food packaging in my bin. I compost my veggie scraps - but I've also decreased this as well by planning my vegetarian menus and using produce quicker so there is not as much spoilage.
The soaker hose has been installed in the garden with a nice covering of cut grass to reduce water usage. I also have a hose timer for the hot July weeks when I am unable to attend the garden personally. The tomato plants are flowering. The hot pepper plants have budding fruit as well. The brussel sprouts (my experimental crop) are looking leafy and healthy. The kohlrabi and basil are not doing so well. I'm considering putting up a tent to shade them a bit more as they get full afternoon sun. The tomatoes & B-sprouts are in the shade of the tree.
I've lost another pound even with a few breakdowns (pizza, steak) although I ate at home not at a resturant. I need to lose another 11 pounds and am feeling good about it. The "eat at least one pound of fresh veggies a day" and similar in cooked non-starch veggies is challenging but I can easily eat 8 oz of celery & carrots. I drink V-8 juice. One pound is about 1 head of leaf or romaine lettuce. I bought fresh kale from the farmers market are will put that into the soups I am planning: white bean green chili and italian tuscano zuppa.
Have a great day!
